I havent a D4...but a D3 2.7.....so my feelings are with an engine that has less .....oomph
On gradients & hills the engine reaaly does move the D3 lump very briskly if you want it to
The power torque are very well matched for the ratios of the Auto box..the manuals ratios are a tad different but I am told are a good match.

I dont know what you are comparing with...but if its a Disco 2 (with TD5....2.5 5-cyl Storm engine) radically different...I found my Td5's lively but very very thirsty when hill or slope climbing.

We too have really steep hilly things here & my experience is that the D3 - 2.7 is an awesome engine....it never struggles.
Good Luck
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

dope slope

low third will drag you up most things without running out of puff
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Never heard of a D4 being called a pick up before Shocked I opened this post expecting to see a D4 that someone had customised by chopping the back off Rolling Eyes

the D4 has more torque than the Land cruiser IIRC.

I thought that, then realised he means "pick up" as in acceleration, not hillbillys. Thumbs Up
