LR3 wanted with 4X4 Info, 7 seats and Leather |
|
My brother who is living in Canada is looking to buy a D3 in USA and import into Canada.
He wants 7 seats, leather, and the 4x4 info / sat nav. Can anyone advise which models come with that as standard in North America please.
He is looking to pay around $17K - $20K
many thanks
Duncan

Hey Dunc, the options have changed up a little over time, but I can tell you this much.
- All have leather standard
- I believe 7 seats started out optional in SE & HSE (called rear seat package), 2006 model it became standard in HSE
- Nav system optional with SE/ standard in HSE (Think it was/is? called technology package)
He might have a tough time finding a good one in that price range (I would never say impossible though ). He should be really careful & scrutinize everything, especially if it's from southeast US. There are a lot of Katrina cars being sold at auction. He'd be safest to get one through a Land Rover dealer with extended warranty I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Not to say he shouldn't, there are some good deals & honest sellers on ebay. However, that being said, my old dealer in Florida discontinued buying from auction for the time being because of too many Katrina cars coming through. They will only accept used autos with pedigree service histories.
The warranty here is 4yr/50K so they'll be out, or close to it. Not all extended warranties are good ones, some don't cover much.
It could also be hard to get a full service history read-out of it like you can from Land Rover. Carfax report doesn't provide enough info to what's been done to it. So it'd be best to have the history checked through LR before he buys anything.
It's a crap shoot for such an 'investment' If it were me, I would only buy certified-used from LR with extended warranty. He could probably find a good one for under $25K with a bit of searching. If he waits a while longer, prices are dropping fast because of the gas price panic I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

I do not suggest you make a purchase that is not face to face. If you want too many options you might just want to buy a new one. I don't know if you can buy the diesel in Canada, but if you could, that is what you should do. You might want to look in major markets craigslists. I am in Austin, often you see these types of cars in Austin/Houston/SanAntonio lists. The up side is there is no salt used here, the downside is that you probably won't get cold weather stuff, though i've seen some dealer loaners with heated seats. Once you find one, SPEAK to the person, and verify the phone number and address, and schedule a personal visit, BEFORE you send any money. People lose their shirts all the time on internet car purchases.... It is also possible if you have a friend or relative in the US, you can get them to do your legwork for you, that is also an option. see this recent link... craigslist forums http://austin.craigslist.org/forums/?act=e...amp;batch=
