What is betterment and is it good or bad that it has been taken away?

Can I clarify that you got a better deal on the phone?

I have this conversation to come shortly....

Betterment is the requirement that you have to pay a contribution to the claim to represent the increase in value to your car if a new part is fitted to replace an old broken or worn out part.

Warranty Direct can remove this clause, which is a good thing considering the cost of parts on a Discovery.

Removing the betterment clause is a good thing, although it could raise the cost of the policy a little.

In my case, both! I have ‘main dealer’ cover on my WD policy, but have had servicing done, and a brake calliper replaced at an independent garage because I could not get it booked into main dealer for over 6 weeks!

Local Indy usually gets jobs into workshop within a few days.

Last service was Main dealer, and the power steering was repaired by main dealer also.

Only difference to me is that I get cake and coffee at M.D, and the car gets cleaned!

Just had new rear Diff fitted at Listers, paid for ( in part) by WD. Its a 2005 D3 147K miles. I had to pay 50% of material cost but still well in pocket .

Just renewed my policy with WD - MY 10 and 107k miles. Because of the age and mileage, they won't cover air con and suspension now. But quote is £600, and still with betterment removed.

Sounds like an OK deal - only hesitation is that MotorEasy are offering complete cover for £150 more. But I've read some horror stories about ME.

Anyone any thoughts?

Motor Easy are not covered by the ombudsman, in any dispute their MD has the final say!

I recently tried again for a quote under their new system and it was not far off treble what I’m paying, MY11 & 60 - 70k, was £5,000 for 3 years. Interesting to see more reasonable prices. No way am I paying £5k for 3 years, nor am I going to run her without a warranty. If I can’t get similar it’s change of brand for me. Thumbs Up

PS Scott, was that under their old system, going down from Extra Care to Major Care?

I think of it along these lines. My car is worth ~£18k, if the crank lets go it’s worth ~£5k instantly. I don’t want to have to either bridge that gap or strip another Disco. Banging Head

Going from Extra Care to ....erm.... something else not quite as good, but cheaper. Can’t get Extra Care due to age and mileage (car, not me). Can’t be more specific as I did all my personal admin at work and I am at home now.

Same here, lot's of horror story's about LR repair costs but the warranty company's seem eager to sell £600-1,200.00/year policy's. There's no way they are taking a loss.

If your going to have an out of Mnf Warranty LR in your life over the next 10 years is it worth £12,000.00 for a warranty that you are going to have to argue with? and of course the High price of dealership servicing as opposed to a local LR expert. Total extra cost could be £20,000.00. Or maybe pay the extra up front (or on the tick) and get a LR still in Mnf warranty? Mind you, devaluation will get you there.

I guess it comes down to . "Do you feel lucky"? .......well, do Ya?
