That's it mines going in the for sale section Laughing

Whilst it may still only be a small percentage that are suffering this problem a WD warranty does seem the best way to go before it all ends in Big Cry

I too received my extended warranty quote from 'LR' today £1200 a year (including LRA) or thereabouts. I too rang them up and asked what would happen in the event of a crank shaft failure..... silence on the other end - until prompted ..... 'we would not cover that as its a known manufacturing defect and would refer you back to LR'.

So I begin to ask how they could refuse such a claim and yet LR have continued to use this engine up until at least 2017, been no recall and not documented elsewhere as a known defect etc, etc ..... I can tell by the silence on the other end I am wasting my breath....

It beggars belief LR approved extended warranty state they do not cover inherent manufacturing defects but do not spell out what they are in the policy documents for any specific vehicle..... so you end up paying £1000 per year only to be ambushed when making a claim about an allegedly known defect about which you knew nothing. Theres something wrong, big time here!! - and from their awkward silence I had the feeling they knew it too.

My last quote from WD last month was £1673 for 3 years ..... I have a feeling this may be different if I asked for another one now - maybe they've caught on.. Big Cry Rolling Eyes (which I'm reluctant to do as its not due for a couple of months and don't want to have to 'fend off' the consequent phone calls again)......

My mates were having a right laugh down the pub the other day when I was explaining the options I've got in a few weeks.

The A to B merchants who will drive anything think of my 3 year old D4 with 25k on the clock as brand new and if I really think it's going to go bang it must be time to move marques!!

Even the one's that do buy new cars think I'm making a fuss over nothing.

But they really p##s themselves when I tell them that if I'm one of the small percentage that gets a broken Crankshaft and it's not insured it could cost upwards of £12k to put right!!

My advice is to make sure you have something in place to start the day your 3 year warranty if bought new runs out, mine was just out of the 3 year warranty when it went bang. Hopefully the new engine is going in next week and should have the car back towards the end of the week.

I got LR extended warranty for 3 year at £1100 all in. That’s about all it’s worth really.
£1000 per year is a joke.

Gone with WD for £1673 (for 3 years) - starting on the cars third 'birthday' - 20th July ..... now just need to sort some breakdown cover - any suggestions? - tempted to go with the AA like what LR use - as at least they have (should have) good knowledge of the LR product.....?

Hi Dannyson
I see you've gone with WD. DId you have a discussion around betterment being removed? Also wondered whether 'Luxury care' exists or if it's just a case of ticking all the cover boxes now. I can't see either mentioned in their latest policy and wondered how you had played it.
Cheers

Warranty direct have changed the way they quote, you now choose modules for cover different parts off he car. You still get a phone call if you get an online quote I’m sure you would still be able to negotiate with them lol

Leaving this late but my 2012 is due for renewal and not planning on going with the LR extended warranty. However it would seem its not a huge amount cheaper for 1 year going with WD ? Although they would defo pay out on a dead engine, reading between the lines in this thread .

Also could see that you can contribute to any claim , that brings the premium down. Don’t see the point in that as in most cases it gets bloody spendy fixing anything:-). Will have another play around with it to see if I can make it a bit more reasonable. Bare minimum need engine cover and probably the suspension.

just had a quote from warranty direct under the new system. At first it took me aback a bit, as I was expecting them to "go and ask for a better deal" and come back with a knockdown rate. 2012 hse with 49k - Initial quote seemed to be exactly as per pulldown menus online, which was £2125 for 3 years with options 1 and 2, £100 excess and 20% parts contribution - betterment has been removed altogether, so contribution to parts.

So I said I would come back to them - they called me back this afternoon , so I asked them to remove the options, but retain the £100 excess and 20% contribution - quote was £1452 for 3 years, as opposed to the online version of £1790. I said I would call back on Friday, so will see what happens then!
