LR Extended Warranty

Anybody out there know the proposed cost of an extended warranty at year 3? If not what's the terms for a current TD5??

Also, is the likely to be a mileage limit?? if i run my D3 to year 3 i'm likely to have about 70k on the clock... if memory serves me right on the TD5 it had to be below 80k?? will this still be the case on a vehicle with an unlimited mileage warranty??

Don't you mean AFTER year three?

Sorry, Yes. I mean after three years! Embarassed

I'm just trying to work out when to trade in, Wife reckons year 2, (24 months) i think year 3, (36 months) but may take a HUGE depreciation hit.. which could be off set by running to year four (48 months)with an extended warranty....

Watch out for LR obsfucation on extended warranties!

I asked about an extended warranty at my local dealers, Roger Youngs of Saltash, Cornwall, a few weeks ago. I will probably keep my D3 beyond three years but due to its complexity, wouldnt run without warranty cover.
Vehicle is 3 years old in January 07.
Roger Youngs said they would be able to give me all the details and costs "by about November next year!"
Was I being fobbed off -- don't they yet know what extended warranty cover is going to be????
And certainly wouldnt wait until next November before getting all the warranty details, costs etc as this would give me very little flexibility ahead of a January 07 need to either sell, part exchange or continue running car.
So if anybody gets warranty rundown, please post...

Don't know the cost but I would have thought around the £600-£700 mark if I had to guess.
I recon an extended warranty is going to be essential for anyone planning to Run a D3 after 3 years. Do you think depreciation is really going to be that bad after 3 years?

It will be for me as i'll have 70-80 k on the clock.... currently at 48k and less then two years old i'm running 4k below book.... it's the old argument about when i'll lose the least money!

As the "average " dealer would punt my car out to trade now, it will only be worse (for me) when the car has no warranty....

i would buy another one..... so the challange to the dealers on the forum is should i trade at 2 years, 3 years or take an extended warranty and trade at 4 years!

As the D3 was available from 01/11/2004 surely all are still under warranty until 31/10/2007 or later, so the cost of an extended warranty probally wouldn't be available yet.

third party warranties

There are of course third party warranties which protect against major failures, as provided for other car manufacturers (including landrover freelanders), that might also be worth considering?? Rolling Eyes

AndrewS - why did it need a new engine at 66000 miles?

The engine had a head gasket problem. LR decided to give me a new engine. Razz

LR Ext Wty Cost

I had a quote for £645+vat from Shukers LR in Shrewsbury.
Warranty Direct is about 850inc depending on the mileage. You can get an on line quote from Warrantydirect and there is an option if you want Dealer fix only or are happy to have any garage fix it. That price was for LR dealer fix.

Extended Warranty.

Land Rover will wait until the last possible moment before they price extended warranties, so they can be sure they don't shoot themselves in the foot! A lot of problems arising in the 3rd year of production would have to be taken into account when pricing extended warranties.Jeep wanted between £800 and £1000 to cover my 2002 Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD for an extra year.
