LR Brochure. . . Misleading ?? |
|
Just ordered a new D4 Commercial and although will have to wait until September, I am pretty much excited to be upgrading from a Navara.
BUT - whilst deciding in the specification with the dealers, I was surprised when it came to discuss the seats. On page 39 of the brochure it shows a photo of the seats with armrests as being "standard on Commercial and XS", however it turns out that these are a £679 + VAT option.
I obviously questioned this with the dealer but to avail. They had to look into it with LR due to not knowing the actual spec of the commercial XS.
Could this actually come under the Trade Description Act as the photo and wording underneath couldn't be much clearer!!
Oh - and has anyone else noticed the Typo on page 1 of the brochure as well = 'DISCORVERY'
Small point that slightly tainted the ordering of the new car

It's pretty bad but there is probably some small print somewhere that says details are not guaranteed and may be liable to change or words to that effect Cheers Ian

Not sure about the Commercial but the standard brochure for the FFRR has "Not all options or accessories may be fitted as standard or available in all markets" or something very similar in the Ts&Cs

When I specked up my disco I had the same problems with the brochures. Had the dealer check everything before I signed up to anything.
Strange they go to such lengths to print brochures and the same goes for the online builder never trust what's always mentioned and check with supplying dealer.

It says on the back of the brochure.
"This brochure should not be regarded as an infallible guide to current specifications"
I had the same problems when ordering the Evoque, I went for the TD4 engine, all brochures showed it with twin exhausts, when it arrived it only had one.
LR are very good at showing things to entice the buyer then relieving them of more cash to get it. I suppose it's the same with most car manufacturers.
The brochures are littered with small print as there get out of jail card. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Must admit, I was somewhat disappointed when mine arrived minus arm rests.
I too on reading the sales literature expected them and would have probably ordered them if I knew they didn't come as standard. MY14 Commercial XS Firenze Red

Thanks for the replies - it seems I'm not the only one who has been somewhat 'duped' by this seat option in the Commercial. It's one thing just showing a picture (such as the exhausts mentioned above) - but when there is actually the written word underneath that picture that states 'as standard' then that really is something genuinely misleading rather than just stretching the truth with nice pictures.
If there is someone from LR customer service who reads this, an explanation of this particular problem would be appreciated - no matter what small print is in the back of the brochure, I'm not sure that Trading Standards would necessarily expect the average consumer to have to read the small print at the back when there is such a clear seat picture with corresponding description on page 39. They may well decide as the customers have that it is mis-selling.
