You can't LPG convert a diesel, but there are some schools of though which say you can add LPG injection to increase fuel efficiency. Not sure I'd try it on the TDV6 though...

They have buses and other diesel vehicles here running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), perhaps that is what he meant?
I've never heard of LPG for improvements in Fuel Efficiency. Tell me more?

injecting LPG with diesel into diesel engine can improve the burn of the diesel and reduce consumption and increse power by quite a margin.

i wouldn't want be first to try it on a tdv6 “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Give JE a call. They do alot of LPG conversions. But I'm pretty sure they'll tell you not to bother on a TDV6. You can't have a diesel engine that runs on either LPG or diesel because of the huge differences in compression ratio requirements. However, you can, as has already been suggested, run a combination of LPG and diesel. However, the benefits are very small and the costs are high. Therefore, is only cost-effective on large engines doing very high mileages i.e. buses, trucks etc.
Just get it chipped instead.

I'd love to get a turbochip, but unfortunately we don't have the 'dealer' network to support/reapply it yet.

Diesel/Gas Australia does this upgrade.......... |
|
Hi All,
Just to dispell a few myths.
The process of mixing Diesel and Gas (LPG) is called fumigation and has been around for many years.
I have had mine done recently and the effects are quite noticeable.
So far all that is stated in the blurb is true. link: http://www.dieselgasaustralia.com.au/
The gas tank I have replaces the spare wheel and therefore the spare is on a rear wheel carrier (Kaymar).
I get 2 tanks of diesel from 1 tank of gas. I used to run around town getting 11-12 lts/100 kms (car is pretty heavy due to racks and crap in the car now). Now running around using 8lts/100kms diesel plus a 25% mix of gas.
The cost equasion is a bit tricky but easier to say used to pay around 12cents/km. Now about 10 cents/km.
Get more power and cleaner running (oil is clean nor black after 1000 kms). I do a lot of kays towing a van and should repay for the system in 3-4 years. We get a rebate of $1750 from the gov't here. My installation cost was about $4,900-$1750 = $3,150 The seller give the 3 yr engine, parts and labour. 2006, TDV6SE, Zambezi Silver

can you tell us more. I'm from Vic and have been told that it can't be done here yet - maybe a state by state thing!
however a few guys from the club have had their TD patrols converted and they reckon its just the very ants pants - in fact now quite boring without the LPG inclusion.
Does it give a huge power increase as with the patrols?
what size tank have you had installed - could you have had a bigger tank fitted for remote travel - how many kms have you done with and before conversion - is ther any special things to watch out for with the conversion
thanks for your help

Hi Preacher,
I had done about 100,000 kms before the conversion. I have a 50ltr gas tank which at a fuel mix of 20% gas is filled every 2.4 tanks of fuel (diesel). The Patrols get a lot more improvement in their performance and economy as do the Cruisers. I think it is because the LR3 is a pretty efficient donk to start with and burns most of the fuel anyway. After saying that; the 20% improvement in economy when towing is verrrry noticeable. Power is not "in your face" but still there.
Use a reputable gas fitter and ensure it is a neat job.

Thanks Gaz
I see by your profile that you are an avid 4WDer, retired and caravaner - likewise!! well almost retired - in my head I've retired but the body still goes to work - most inconvenient.
Tell me about your van its tare and what if any problems you've faced and your delights as well.
Pics would be good on your rig - how you've set it up etc
thanks
