Lower Tailgate not opening on D4

Hi guys, for some reason the lower tailgate no longer releases when you presss the button. Has anyone experienced this before? Any tips or links to good quality Products for a DIY fix, or should I bring it into my LR specialist?

Many thanks[/i]

I think this is a fairly common problem on D3/D4. Try searching for lower tailgate. Smile

Can you hear anything when the button is pressed? If not, might be the actuator. If yes, might be the wire that is broken.

Both are DIYable.

Absolutely no idea, it just started working again. I think it decided it was having the weekend off!

Blame global warming. Expansion of a widget due to unseasonal temperatures. Laughing
Seriously, this once happened to my D3 and it sorted itself without help. LandRovers eh?

ok … if it now works, it can't be a snapped cable or the cable coming out of the plastic bits.

So it's looking like a lazy actuator. without being too pessimistic, if it's started to go "off" it WILL fail at some point. Suggest buy in the bits to fix it AND add the manual release whilst you have the tailgate in bits ?

Great, thanks for your help guys.

I don't suppose anyone has any links or tips for exactly what i'm searching for do they? And i didn't know that a manual release could be added!

Cheers

I only spotted the manual tailgate info in the wiki a few days ago … https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic147204.html

I'm wondering if it's something I should do myself before summer roadtrip.

I think you're talking at cross purposes. Rolling Eyes

The OP has an issue with his lower tailgate not opening, all the links so far have been regarding releasing the upper tailgate which is fixed by playing around with the lower tailgate.

Maybe the OP should clarify if he can open the top tailgate successfully as if he only has a lower tailgate issue, that may be the switch and nothing more. Wink

Yep, just the Lower Tailgate that had the issue, no problems at all with the upper one.

Usual culprit is the micro switch, as its the best Ford quality item Whistle

Yeah, I thought so. Best advice is given by L319, start with the micro switch. Wink
I think I'm correct in saying the switch part number is FQY500011
