Lower Control Arm Ball Joint |
|
Hi All
I've just had the 36,000km service done on a disco 3 tdv6, and have been told:
a) the front lower control arm ball joint has excessive movement and needs to be replaced
b) the front left tyre is excessively worn on the outside edge (and a bit on the front right).
The ball joint will be replaced under warranty, but I am told the worn tyre is unrelated, and is something they see regularly on this car. This sounds dubious to me, and I'm wondering if I should press for the tyres to be replaced under warranty.
Any thoughts on a) or b) greatly appreciated.
Wade.

lower ball joints are a nightmare they are so week that im not suprised its worn the latest modification improoved the durability a little but...
howewer from my experience the worn joint hardly caused the worn tyre
the differnt thing is with 36k km i would insist on tyre replacement under warrenty
here in Ireland a short phone call to Landrover uk would quikly make the stealer to change their mind
and well they are right something else cousing the wear to the tyre have to find it before the new tyre is wrecked as well

Thanks. Yes I'm chasing the dealer and LR head office for a better explanation. Tyres shouldn't look like that after 31K km.

31k KM doesn;t sound too bad,
think of the poor Q7 drivers who are lucky if they get 10k (miles) out of them! Dealers are suprised if anyone gets beyond that apparently! Bodsys Brake Bible

I've had a disco 3 for 18 months (and 31k km) and have spend AUD$700 for new pads all round, and am now looking at $1000 for 2 new tyres. And all that to run the kids to school (and an occasional muddy holiday)
I was thinking of switching to a Q7 rather than upgrading to the disco 4 - maybe it would be a step back.
