Low Range/reverse issue/stalling

Having had my 2007 D3 since before Christmas I thought it was time I tried low range to make sure all was OK. I know I should have tried it before I purchased but it was from a main dealer so I have the approved vehicle warranty.

Anyway, flicked the switch and low range seemed to select ok with appropiate indicator showing. Drove forward for 30 metres up my drive and all was OK. Didn't seem much slower than high range but not sure what to expect. So then I put in reverse and reversed back down the drive. It seemed to me that revs increased quickly as I pressed the accelerator pedal and then when I took my foot off the revs were slow to die down. Then when I braked to stop the car actually stalled - as though a clutch was dragging badly. No error messages at all.

Anyone experienced this ?

From what I know of the cars history it has probably never been offroad and never towed so it is possible that low range has not been used much, it at all.

Any thoughts ?

Richard

I didn't actually mention that this is an auto box.

Sounds strange, I thought the D3 had antistall technology. I regularly test my low range because as you say it never really goes off road in the true fashion. The rapid build up of revs is normal due to the lower gear ratios. I generally use mine entering the car park at work which has a fairly steep ramp up and I can almost let the car climb on its own. I always reverse into my space and the only problem I have found with reverse in low box is controlling the car on the brakes (the opposite of your problem) the torque is so high that it fights the brake application!

It sounds like yours needs checking out.
