Low Power Mode - when should it kick in
Since the day after my 105K service I have been getting Low Power Mode come up on the radio. It usually comes on ok but then after driving up the motorway (1500 - 2000 RPM), with no lights or anything else on this afternoon and nothing changing went go into Low Power Mode, it has been usually 10 - 15 min after starting.
Did a few voltage checks this afternoon and got 12.34 when stopped and ranged between 13.93 and 13.5 dependant on load at tickover. It seemed to be ok for a while and then again went into low power mode with no change in the battery voltage.
Does this voltage sound about right or is it perhaps a little low?
Also, with the car running, if you look down to the left of the fan, you can see the tensioner, this seemed to be moving quite a bit when at steady revs, is this normal or should it be pretty static?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Looks to me like alternator's fooked, should be 15.3v
PS I had this on a 600 mie drive, took it to the dealer after & they couldn't find a fault. It's never come back since, despite carrying a spare alternator around with me for 2000 miles.

I'm hoping you are wrong after seeing how much they are It just seems very co-incidental to my 105K service,Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Looking at it, it doesn't look like they changed the fan (alternator) belt. Although on the check list they gave me it has Replace timing belt (the obvious one) but it also has "Replace Drive Belt" (PQS500370) but it isn't itemised in the receipt, which one is that, front or back?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

PQS500370 isnt a front or rear timing belt, can only presume its the aux belt...

Ok, so I have now compared tensioners on another car and maybe mine are ok, I have also been assurred that the belt was changed, so before I buy a new alternator, what other checks can I do, I am getting around 13.9V no matter the load at tickover and has anyone found anywhere that can refurb them?Joined the BMWX5 45e group
