Today my D4 has popped up the low DEF fluid level warning at start up, but from the service menu it says I have 1429 miles left, and its already booked in for its first service under the service plan I brought (mid Oct, but needed to book in this early to get a courtesy car), and I wont have done 1429 miles by then, possibly another 1000. So do I ignore the message and drive it keeping an eye on the mileage displayed by the service menu. Dont really want 2 trips to the dealers in fairly close succession.

This stuff is £11 for 10 litres at Morrisons. It's as easy to fill the tank as it is to fill your screen washer reservoir.
Buy some, top it up a bit and keep the rest in the garage. You ought to have a bit in stock anyway. Either that, or risk being stranded - the "miles to empty" display is laughably optimistic. You'll probably run out in 2/3rds that distance! (I've done nearly 30,000 miles in my DEF equipped D4, it's already had two services and I've already emptied 2 x 10 litre bottles of the stuff over and above what they supply FOC at service time ) 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: FL2 as a second car

If you shop around for DEF ensure it meets JLR's required standard:-
Quote:ISO standard 22241-1. Diesel exhaust fluid is also known as DEF, AdBlue, AUS 32 and ARLA 32.

OK Cheers Chaps - guessing I was just being a bit "tight" seeing as I was almost at service time
I'll get 10ltrs and stick it in - what's the DEF tank capacity?

Capacity:-
Quote: 18 liters
JLR warn:-
Quote:Do not overfill the DEF reservoir. Do not use DEF dispensing nozzles as used for commercial vehicles. The system is not designed to be filled under the pressure and flow-rate that such pumps dispense at, therefore, damage could occur.

I've had to fill mine twice now and I'm at 16500 miles. It starts with the warning your getting now then at about 600 miles left starts counting down the miles so if you want to eek it out to the service you should be fine.
As others have said no harder than filling your screen wash really. Ive not found any Labeled AdBlue that hasn't matched the spec yet. MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
MY12 HSE - Gone
MY16 HSE Luxury - Sold
MY20 D5 HSE - Sold

so close, yet so far, made it to 3 weeks until service, 14850 miles, fed up with warning triangle, even though it said I'd 600 odd miles still to go. Just stuck 10 ltrs in it.
20 quid for 10lr bottle at Halfords - was labled AdBlue and the right spec, and a nice self bleeding filler that fitted perfectly, 10 ltrs in a about a minute

I think the gentleman above is advising you only put a couple of litres in now so that you get the full value of your service and then have some in stock if it needs topping up before your next one.
