Low coolant warning.

I've had a low coolant warning flash up 3 or 4 times in the last few days usually within the first 3 miles of a journey but today it did it after approx 10 miles, water level and temp gauge are good, strange thing is my daughter has exactly the same fault in her D4, it's only happened during the hot weather.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

If coolant level is ok when cold then the most likely culprit is the sensor on the bottom of the expansion tank. You need to swap in a new tank. Thumbs Up

And yes it is very common. Mr. Green

I had the same issue couple weeks ago. Problem is the floating element inside an expansion bottle. After time it loosing ability to float. New bottle fixed the problem. Thumbs Up

It’s not easy as changing cup holders on the D3 but it is not a difficult job on any scale Laughing

Plenty of YouTube videos around, I think. Thumbs Up

Parman,
Changing sensor won't give you any benefit. It is very rare to be faulty sensor. Usually the problem is the floating ring inside the bottle which work together with sensor. Unfortunately this element isn't replaceable. New bottle is the only way, I'm afraid.
However, you might be lucky with faulty sensor only Thumbs Up

Solved my problem, water was slightly low when cold Embarassed checked it previously when hottish!
Topped up with neat antifreeze which should raise the specific gravity slightly.
