Low coolant reading

Hi

I'm new on the forum having recently bought an 06MY Disco 3 TDV6 7 seat. Since I've had it I've done about 2000 miles and keep getting a 'low coolant' warning message despite there appearing to be plenty of coolant! Running temp is fine and I seem to remember seeing on here a thread about this in the past saying that it is a common problem and needs a new header tank to solve it. My supplying dealer claims no knowledge of this 'problem' so I wondered if anyone had the TSB number (plus any advice!) on this so that I can present it to the dealer!

Hope you can help...

Hi Welcome to the site.

Do a search for "low coolant" or "coolant warning" and you'll find a thread which gives you the TSB about this being a known fault - fixed under warranty by the dealer - they replace the coolant tank/sensor as the original sensors absorb coolant and loose their boyance
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Which dealer are you using G1BBO?

Stratstones in Stoke.

I noticed the fault on the test drive and asked them to sort it out before collection. When I picked up the car I queried whether they had sorted it and they claimed that it was just a fault code that needed clearing. When I pushed them (as I'd read on here about the need to change the whole header tank) they said they didn't know anything about this being a known warranty fault but it was all ok anyway having had the fault code cleared. For about 500 miles it was fine but since then it has been happening intermittently so just wanted some ammo to take back to them to get it sorted out properly.

Have to say, other than the slight hassle factor with this issue, their service was otherwise very good.

This fault was one of the most common problems with early vehicles. How your dealer can deny all knowledge of an official fix, and then try to pull the wool over your eyes with some old pony about a 'software reset' speaks volumes.

If I were you, I would obtain a copy of LTB00133 and ask them why as a main dealer they did not know about it?

Does anyone know what MY vehicles were impacted?

I've got a 08MY (or it could be 08.5MY) and I occasionally get the LOW COOLANT warning.

I've seen it a couple of times recently on my 06MY. Disappears quickly and is then forgotten about. I did check the level under the bonnet and it was fine. Neutral

id... the sensor issue would mean that you would see the error all the time until it was replaced ...it wasn't intermittent Confused

Thanks DG Very Happy

Funny thing is that it always seems to happen when the engine is warm. It's going in on Friday for a couple of minor warranty issues (cigar lighter not working - though with the credit crunch who can afford cigars these days Laughing - and the little clip/spring thing for the fuel filler flap has gone awol) and to have the ACM fitted so I'll mention it to the stealer in passing.

Just to update you all - car was in the dealer today and they replaced the coolant header tank due to a faulty sensor. Thanks for all your help and advice. Thumbs Up
