Low Coolant?
Hi All,
I am getting an occasional low coolant warning message, but I know that the level is fine. I suspect the coolant tank needs replacing as this seems to be a common fault.
The low level warning comes on after hard acceleration/load is this due to the water pump increasing the pressure within the system?

Anti freeze is spot on, intend to replace tank, just curious as to why hard acceleration and heavy load would cause light to come, increase in pressure in system from water pump??

Mine did this when ever i gave it a bit more acceleration than i normally would. It would bring the light on. Then either after10 mins or i switched off and on again, it would go out. Only to return the next time i planted my foot.
Swapped the tank, easy to do. Fixed it. However, it came on again after a few weeks. Turns out I hadn't bled the system correctly, so just make sure you get any trapped air out. Might be worth seeing if there's air trapped before swapping the tank? There shouldn't be, but its free to check it, before swapping the tank.

Hope you got this sorted OK. I think the answer to your question is that the problem is the float switch gets water logged and when you put your foot down the water pump increases pressure. The coolant enters the expansion tank from the top putting a downward force on the water logged float switch which sinks to a point that triggers the warning. Of course when you stop the car get out and have a look on tick-over the float has recovered and looks OK.
I changed the whole tank and all is well.Disco 4 2012
