Lost locking wheel nut key
My car is due its 30K service. As money is very tight at the mo, I figured I'd better get those brake pads I bought months ago put on before I booked it in...
So, I nosed the Disco into the garage (gravel drive not good for jacking), and changed out the front pads - a doddle (piston spreader was worth the money). I then figured whilst I was turning the car around, I might as well take it for a quick spin to bed the front pads in a bit, then do the rears. Upon coming back, I carefully backed into the garage, picked up my wheel brace and thought " - where's the wheel nut key? ARRGHHH!!! I'd only bloody left it on the wheel nut, and of course, now it's gone.
Anybody know how much local stealer will charge to sort (no, I don't know what code was stamped on it).
Any other way out of the problem?

£8 ish. I had to get a replacement last year as the dealer couldn't find mine despite "thoroughly searching" the vehicle. Of course after the new one arrived I found the original hidden away in the ash tray . So devious a hiding place I doubt Indiana Jones would have found it.
At least I've now got a spare should I leave one attached to my nuts .2014 Defender 90.

That's a lot less than I expected.
How did they ascertain which key number was required?

You get what you pay for. I was sufficiently unimpressed by the factory lockers that I replaced with std nuts.
Took some 6mths and repeated orders to get a spare key for mine, had to have new keys and locks in the end as LR had no record of the key blade fitted so couldn´t cut/order a spare one... Cheers

I didn't have one with mine (I bought it privately) and it was very easy to sort out, I drove to the dealers who came out with a bag of bits and hit lucky on the 10th try.
I think it was only about 7 quid and they had one in stock.

A to J your dealer will or should have one of each, so take one of your locking wheel nuts to them and they can match the nut to one of the keys In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Trial and error at my dealer from their box of keys. Apparently they couldn't tell which key from the VIN plate.

I just spoke to one dealer, and was told "We would have to charge for them to try all the key combinations, as it's quite a timely process". (I resisted the urge to tell her to look up the meaning of timely in the dictionary).
Another dealer just said "Come round and we'll have a look". Guess which one I'll be visiting...

Surprisingly, the helpful one was in town, and the other one a few miles due west.
All sorted now for the grand sum of £2.51
Brake pads all changed too - I couldn't half do with a taller trolley jack, though.
