Well guess it had to happen.
2 months out of warranty and the dreaded bong and engine systems failure message.
To be absolutely fair the vehicle has been completely without fault over the last 18 months, although as an early 05 reg it spent an inordinate time at the dealer in the early days with software related issues.
To start with there was just the message after about 5 miles of driving. Spoke to the dealer, and the earliest they could take it in was next Thursday. Today however, there has been a warning message from start-up, and a severe loss of power.
I'm thinking EGR valves, or Turbo failure. 
Bizarre thing is that it seems to be doing More to the gallon then ever before. 32 mpg currently showing.
I'm wondering if lack of turbo boost means a corresponding decrease in fuel injected.
Guess I will have to see what the stealer says next week, but I'd be interested in any opinions. Discovery TDV6 S Silver

I thought the turbo pumped more air in increasing the bang and reducing fuel consumption. from what Ive read on here the valves seem most likely.

I'm not sure.
I know when the EGR valves fail that mpg goes through the floor just by reading other peoples posts.
My thinking with the turbo, was that less air forced into the engine ment less fuel injected to maintain the same fuel air ratio.
I think the turbo hasn't failed completely if it is that, as there is still some shove at the higher end of the rev range. It's just lost all power low down. Probably the variable vane geometry not quite so variable.
If I could be sure it was the EGR valves I'd blank them off. Unfortunately I suppose I will have to wait until the stealer reports back on Thurday. Discovery TDV6 S Silver

If it comes up "engine system fault" displayed on the dash, Turbo is at fault.
EGR valve failure wont bring that message up

Any one know how much a new turbo is likely to cost?

I would not worry untill you have had the DTC's read by a diagnostic tool, there a million and one stratgies inside the ecu that can cause limp/safe mode of this car.

Hate to say it but a new turbo is close on £1k, plus labour. And it isnt a fun job
Ask about Allegiance though. Gives you a discount on parts and labour

If you are two months out of Warranty I'd try for good will from LRCS, if you car has been maintained by LR you may get some assistance.

News back from the Dealer...............
Turbo Blown
As I suspected really, I've read else where that there have been problems with the variable geometry mechanism.
Cost quoted to repair £1870.00 plus a weeks wait for a turbo.
As suggested by others (see above) I suggested that Landrover should meet some of this cost, as it is only just out of warranty and has only done 26k. After some teeth sucking and a call to Landrover they have agreed to pay half the total cost. Suppose that's about as much as I could expect.
This still leaves me with a bill for nearly £1000.00.
As a private owner I'm afraid that we are going to have to give serious thought as to weather we keep it. The future cost of repairs and running costs is starting to get beyond our reach. We planned to run the vehicle for 10 years plus as we do with all our cars. Discovery TDV6 S Silver
