After some serious pestering, and presentation of the above mentioned TSB printout (which turned out to be for the US market and also didn't include my chassis range ) and eventually they changed the seat rails on both front seats, but they said it wasn't covered by warranty, even at only 22k miles, and they had done it at their expense.
It is great now, and the rocking of the "whole" seat is gone, but sadly now that problem is gone, I can feel the seat base itself moving!! The seat back and frame is perfect compared with before, but did I read somewhere that there is a known problem with the base cushion too? D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

My 09 HSE has the same rock in the drivers seat and was bought a month ago from an independent. Is the rail replacement being done at the dealers expense at all? Discovery 4 HSE 2014 (Current)

The rail replacement is not the standard procedure. It took me a lot of pestering to get them to do it. They really didn't want to. The first procedure is to adjust the motor as per the earlier posts in this thread, but sadly that didn't work for me, hence getting them to change the rails. Not sure how much, as they stood the bill given that they only just supplied me the car.
Like I saidthough, that has now exposed another rocking just in the base D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

From an engineering perspective winding the drives so the frame is effectively twisted is a real bodge and I would have thought placed more pressure on the motor along with exacerbating wear on the track - will approach where I bought her to see if they will replace the tracks.
The drivers seat is a real pain in the back for me (literally) as I've not been able to get fully comfortable since getting the car. The seat base looks to be squashed with little side support and the lumbar deflates by itself some of the time, then add the horizontal hardness where the leather is stitched together doesn't help. Annoyingly with all the LRs I've had over the years I've never had this before even in the old leafers!
The cars brilliant so but I suspect I'm going to end up getting the seat rebuilt Discovery 4 HSE 2014 (Current)

You're absolutely right. Mechanically it is totally stupid and it made mine worse and about seized the motor. The rails can't be much because they wouldn't have offered to foot the bill otherwise, but the part numbers are in the TSB on the last page. I guess the cheapskates were just looking for some bodge fix so they could say they fixed it without having to pay anything. They actually said that they didn't care if the motor seized, and just said when it does just bring it back and the motor can be replaced under warranty!! Assuming of course that happens in the next 9 months before the warranty expires.
Pretty sure the seat cushions are available. Check microcat lrparts.ru. You can strip the seat covers off and change the insides. I had to get inside one of the middle row seats when the release cable broke, so they do come apart relatively easily. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Dragging this post out again as I'm experiencing this on my MY8.5 HSE and it's getting worse
So the fix is to replace complete runner frame (LR012040) but this may not last?
and the bodge is to skew the runners to create a bit of tension and resist the rocking?
Anyone have experience of claiming on a Warranty direct (luxury care) warranty for this "feature"? Fairly sure it's excluded whereas I presume a LR Approved would be covered?

I don't know the cost of new runners, but that is certainly the way I would go. My dealer replaced mine in the end, supposedly at their expense, but only because they were sick of me moaning about all of the problems the car they sold me had.
LR warranty aparently doesn't cover it, because there is a supposed fix. Other warranties might cover it if they don't know about the bodge fix. You can easily try the bodge fix if you want to see what it does. It's really easy to do, but just remember exactly what you did, how many turns etc so that you can put it back when you are not happy with it. On mine, it made my seat motor very strained and slow, and even got stuck sometimes, cutting out.
In terms of it lasting, as far as I know it was just a few model years that were affected, no idea why they suddenly started using defective parts after the previous one was perfectly good (My earlier car went to 152k before I sold it, with no problem, yet the later model was having the problem by 19k). I know they fixed it on later models, D4 etc, so if you replace the runners you will have the later D4 spec and it should be good for life then. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

bump.
my car does this under braking/acceleration. reminds me of the same issue on the bmw z3 for which the fix was to replace the rubber bushes in the seat rails. has anything similar possible for the D3?

Searched the forum for this topic, as I was having this seat rocking issue on my 15plate HSE Lux. I just wanted to updated the members as it had been into LR a few times with them applying the SB and other ideas, but I've now finally had it fixed. Entire seat sub-frame was replaced under warranty and i can safely say its fixed, at least for now. All of the previous adjustments might have reduced it, but never eliminated it. Not it feels solid and has made a huge difference. The simple things.....

Yeah, I had that done but didn't cure completely, and it got worse again with time. Might have been the LR technician ability to apply the SB correctly.

I did the fix where you wind the motor cable. Took couple of minutes and been perfect since.
Twas only a little wobble, but it was annoying none the less. Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

Apologies for digging up an old thread.
I wonder if the seat movement issue is similar to the issues that plague BMW seats of the same era? A quick google shows a rubber bushing to each wormgear of the seat rail, that completely disintegrates, allowing the rail to move back and forth a few mm each way.
The solution is to fit nylon bushings where the rubber ones were. have a quick look at this:
Can anyone confirm if the seat rails are the similar to the BMW ones? Give it another couple of weeks of lockdown, and I'll tear mine down to find out!
