Locking nut
Problem (because Landrover don’t have too many of these!)
Locking wheel but is not undoing. Looks like half of it is a cap and the other half is the nut and the cap is spinning. Any ideas how to shift it? It has a look of the nut key teeth shredding the inside of it?
Initially thinking it’s the nut key so ordered a new one as it does look a bit worn.

If it's spinning it's too late, the outer has come away from the inner, I think. ISTR it needs a chisel to get the locking one off.
Once you've done that get rid of the other 3 & fit normal nuts. Hopefully the other 3 are OK, if not get the chisel out again.

It’s definately spinning. What’s the process for chiselling it off? (Sorry if that’s a stupid question.)

Take it to a tyre depot. The guys there will have the correct tools for getting it out, you won't have and will probably damage the alloy. Mods:

Tyre places are not usually known for subtlety so I guess you have to judge your own skills vs the tyre fitter.
Not had to resort to a chisel yet, but keep one just in case. Usually just a punch to stake the cap down or to turn the remains, sometimes with Irwins to assist. Heavy mallet helps to avoid aggressive swinging. Then use a vice bench and swearing to get the 'loose' bolt back out of the Irwins.
Of course, those with a welder are just sniggering by now.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
