locking D4 with bonnet open ? |
|
is there anyway to lock the doors when the bonnet is open ?
I am giving the battery a charge and want to leave the bonnet open but lock the doors. However, when I try to do so the car just beeps at me Duncan

There must be a sensor/switch somewhere that detects it's open.
If you could find that then replicate a 'bonnet closed' situation. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.

i think its under the bonnet catch just like in the D3 -
I thought about pressing the catch down ie locking it, but I just know that I would forget and slam the bonnet on the closed catch.... Duncan

I went in through the air intake.....undid the clip to the air box and went to the battery from there....not too much of a faff and got the car locked "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Mmm, might do that - I have a connector to attach to the battery so could leave the plug inside the blank air intake Duncan

Well leave the end tucked in at top end of the bonnet, easy, had mine there for 2yrs, no need at all to have bonnet open just plug in when needed

Another thing that perhaps isn't really progress!
I had a faulty bonnet switch on my D3 for a while - what a nightmare if it means you can't then lock your car! Not too bad in your garage or on the drive, but what if it goes wrong as you're driving to an important meeting in the middle of a town? No time to get it fixed, meeting too important to miss - but no way to lock it either!
Sorry, but I think this 'upgrade' is actually a short sighted and counter intuitive (non)advance. D4 XS MY12 Galway

Discotres wrote:just plug in when needed Do you really need to charge your battery often enough to make this worthwhile?
I think in the last 7 years, other than a week or two when my battery was dying and I hadn't realised the problem, I've only had to charge my battery about twice when, despite the bleeps, I'd managed to leave lights on. D4 XS MY12 Galway

since I still use both the D3 and the D4 each one only gets half of the use it would if I only had 1.
either car can go for several days a week not being used and the constant recording of the Blackvue drains the battery a bit.
just keen to keep them topped up - the D4 gave me a low batt warning a few days a go Duncan
