Our Local Independent Land Rover Specialists Any Good?

Was just wondering if anyone has heard of or knows of brian davies and son located in Montgomery, Powys.

http://briandaviesandson.co.uk/

My first impression of the guys was very positive, easy to talk too, explained the problems clearly, advised us on potential problems and things they recommend us changing and fixing.

Reason being we have recently taken the plunge and brought a D3 TDV6 after years of owning a freelander [pretty much trouble free] we thought that this would be a great upgrade, we took it to them to get a few things fixed and for them to have a good look over it. The truck needed £1700 worth of work done! Mainly due a knackered vacuum pump + brake servo ramping up the cost.

From reading the threads on this forum, it's apparent these cars are like a ticking time bomb and very expensive. It's getting close to the point where we are favoring the little run around car we have to do all the things we brought this for.

I'm hoping that you guys have heard of them, and more importantly are people we can rely on to do a good job.

Thanks.

When I was looking at a D3 a friend who owned one told me to budget £1000 a year on average for repairs and I reckon he was right. I have passed that on to others and they have found it about right as well.....

These beasties are now cheap to buy but not cheap run - they can really drain your wallet if you don't look after them or end up buying a poorly maintained one. A good indi is essential if you can't do jobs yourself. Also get an IIDBT from GAP. It will save you a fortune in the long run. Thumbs Up

The only way to run one one of these cars cheaply, is to park it somewhere and don't use it! Whistle

Unless you are a reasonably competent home mechanic, it will cost money. Finding a decent indy is critical, and don't plump for the cheapest one, it'll cost you more in the long run.

However, all that said, these are great cars (not trucks Wink ) and are very capable. Thumbs Up

Agreed I love mine, its certainly a keeper. I've done a mixture of home maintenance, additional oil changes and some repairs, but also used a good independent like JAS (York) and Copley Landrover (Halifax) for jobs I'm just don't want or can't do.

Thanks for the insight guys, lucky for us this is a second car. However sInce owning the truck, I mean car, and bearing in mind we've only had it for a few weeks we have all ready had the following done;

* EGR blacking kit
* Both front wheel bearings
* Both lower arm front bushes
* Fuel filter
* Both rear break pipes (copper)
* Both track rod ends
* Vacuum pump
* Brake servo
* Replaced the transmission oil
* Replaced the engine oil

Almost forgot the 4 new tyres that was another £700

Regarless of all that the car has had only 2 owners and did come with a very comprehensive service history and extremely clean mot history.

However scaning through that achive I can't find any information regarding if/when the oil pump was changed so, back to garage it is. You know it's crazy when you think about it, I have never spent so much money on a perfectly working car before.

So this vist will entail the following;

* Both belts changed
* New style oil pump
* Water pump
* Fitting BAS silicone down pipe

Although the cam belt was done 20000 mile ago that was over 6 years ago so is probably worth doing, piece of mind and all that.

Anyway, on a plus note I've also been talking to BAS about getting the car chipped so once all the above has been done that will follow shortly. I've heard good things about this, mainly from you guy's, well only from you guy's actually but that's good enough for me!

Also here's a strange thing the previous owner had fitted those Censored awful side steps just prior to selling it, you know the ones that end up rotting the sills. So those are coming off as soon as get the replacement sill plastics.

Again thanks for all the advice.

Oh have you guys heard of that garage I mentioned above?
