Very load metal cling when on full lock |
|
Hi folks,
Saw another post on a grinding noise when on full lock and how some stops need greasing to stop this.
Not sure if this is the same problem, last night I was parking in a multistory carpark. There were some airconditioning duct I though I might hit with the roof rails on so lowered my suspension.
Upon turning sharp right up a ramp there was a very load cling, kinda like the noise you hear when you drive over a metal drain cover, sharp load noise made when 2 metal surfaces come into contact at force. I actually though it was a drain cover until it happened again on the next ramp.
I couldn't see any damage and it hasn't happened at all at normal height.
Am I after breaking something or do I just need to grease these stops that where talk about in the other post.
Bear in mind the disco in brand new, only 4 weeks old
Thanks

Sounds like exactly that problem. A dab of copper grease & you'll be sorted. I had the same thing when mine was new a year ago, no problem since Bodsys Brake Bible

All depends on the sound. If it was a Cling can't help you. However, I had a loud twang when my D3 was only a few weeks old and found a thread on here that had pictures of the offending steering stops. I greased them and not a twang since, 30 secs per side. If you can't find the thread say so and I'll try and get some pictures for you.

mine's always done a twangy noise when in Access height on a reasonable lock, I've always ignored it and it's never happened in any other mode or got any worse over the two and a half years I've had it from new. I've put it down to the steering geometry not being entirely happy at the lowered mode. wasn't the end-stop greasing fix for standard height? and theeeeennn......???

That's fantastic, have had 3 defenders and trashed the hell out of them with never a care in the world, although all of them were about 8 or 9 year old when I bought them. This is the first disco in the house, the wife doesn't like the defenders but wanted a jeep so had to be a disco (and she bought it herself, how lucky am I )
But being very expensive and brand new I'm being very precious about it at the moment.
I'm sure that will change once I convince the wife to let me take it off where it belongs, in the mud.....
Anyway thanks again guys
