Load Clicking Noise

Evening All,

I’m new to the forum but not new to the common faults with an LR4 Laughing it’s started today with a load clicking noise from the rear of the car. What do you think the issue is?

Your wallet is too heavy. Don't worry. It's about to get lightened.

Very Happy I’m use to having a light wallet owning a Discovery. But you can’t be without one? It makes the noise in drive not on tick over. It’s a loud ticking noise I’ve checked for the usual signs to the drive shafts but all seems fine other than the usual oil leak underneath the engine.

Perhaps wheel bearing or differential? I mean if it ticks only when you are in motion.

Could one of the handbrake cable bracket snapped , my D3 did this and the cable was catching the wheel weight as it went round

Sounds like that might be the case. I will check it out tomorrow thanks. It did make a clunking noise when I pulled away from the lights earlier in the day when the Hill stop, hold released.

It could also be the EPB shoes just needing adjustment, this would be the simplest explanation..

Loud Clicking

It’s a really loud clicking metal on metal noise which gets worse when you go faster, sounds like when you use to put cards in your bmx wheel spokes.

I'd be inclined to jack it up at the back and spin the wheels by hand to see if you can narrow it down at all.

Check the tyre tread too in case something has nailed itself on!

Cheers

Brake cable rubbing on near side rear wheel, support bracket bent or broken.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Fixed Finally

Thanks for all your help it was the handbrake release, spring. All fixed now but now the passenger side headlight has decided to stop working for some reason and the oil leak near the rh turbo is back.

Shocked any ideas with the light?

Failed bulb, cabling or loose connector? Assuming connector is securely in place, try playing with the cable bundle a bit. I think there would be a code for failed headlight so perhaps reading codes first would be the best course of action.. Whistle
