A little oil top-up? Yes or No?

Morning

Despite searching on here and RTFM, I'm undecided. My oil level is one click down:

My instinct is to top it up a little. The manual says not to, until the point where it will tell me it needs half a litre, at which point it will let me know. Half a litre isn't a top-up in my mind, I'm considering putting a cupful in at this point.

Should I calm down or crack on? Also, when you fill it up, does the electronic dispay register change straight away or do you have to recycle the ignition? Grateful for your experience.

I miss my dipstick Whistle

James

The display system can be very optimistic on how much is needed, nothing to worry about here, but could mean you overfilling it if tried. Thumbs Up

James, had a similar situation a while back and left it alone as it's only 150mls or so. The next time I checked in exactly the same spot it was full again. the vagaries of the system. Rolling Eyes

Mines 2 bars below Max (so assume engine is only 3/4 full of oil) after first 1000miles, with no message to top-up. Do I leave it alone as well?

It's a personal choice. I left mine until it was 4 down(about 4000km?) and added about 600ml just before a long trip. The oil consumption seems to have settled down now it's reached 25,000km and it hasn't moved from full in the last 2500km. Thumbs Up

edit.from memory it's 1.5 lt from min to max.

Don't worry, your engine is way more than 3/4 full. The gauge only shows the top-up range rather than the full volume of oil in the sump. Think of it as an expanded scale as you would be hard pushed to read a dipstick to within a few hundred ml.

I'm sure you are but it is important to follow the instructions on engine temperature and time when using the oil gauge.
