Some little git let my tyre down

Went to the shops yesterday and when we got back the rear drivers side tyre was almost flat, so I assumed it was punctured. As we have the boot divider with the dog guard, I couldn't reach the spare wheel release. I also didn't have the tool to remove the boot divider Embarassed . I had just renewed the LRA and warranty, so I thought I would ask them to help. They were helpful on the phone but they said it would be an hour for a local company to come out or 2 hours for a LRA technician. I remembered that there was a tyre place about 3/4 mile away, so I managed to get a pump and pump the tyre up, thinking it would be enough to make it.

Drove to the tyre place, they took off the wheel had a look and couldn't see anything it, so they put it in a barrel of water and no leak. Tyre is still at same pressure today, so the only answer is somebody let it down and even put the dust cap back on Evil or Very Mad

If I ever catch the little Censored, don't they realise how dangerous that is, we have children in the car.

That's a tactic they use in Edinburgh on a regular basis Twisted Evil

Your right though, highly dangerous, especially if it goes un-noticed.

bizzarely in my Christmas stocking, there was a set of tamper proof dust caps - might be worth investing?

Funnily enough, I am getting some tamper proof dust caps tomorrow. I can't believe how stupid people can be, it can cause a serious accident on the motorway.

If my wife had been on her own, it would have been much worse.

DSC works sooner than TPMS if the tyre pressure is low....

I was thinking about buying a tyre pressure sensing system but if the DSC works quicker it will save me the money. Might have been the wrong thread, but it was useful anyway.

Used to be the case that the little thugs would put a small stone under the valve cap, much quicker than holding the valve down while the tyre deflates, takes only seconds down by the wheel to do. Evil or Very Mad
 Cheers

....I was

considering adding a leak sealer to my D3 tyres when I change them (the green slimy stuff that seals a leak & costs too much !)......just a thought what happens if you want to let your tyre down - does the leak sealant get into tyre valve or does it stay on periphery of inside of tyre ?
Has anybody tried or used this ?
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

I have this TPM system: http://www.rockshore.uk.com/tyre-pressure-...1689-p.asp

It displays tyre pressure and temperature in real time. After the holidays I'll have my dealership install it.

Don't know about the tyre valve but if you have the factory TPM system the leak sealer will most likely void the warranty.

Because of my wife and children driving my D3 I installed a special kit which beeps when I have
a low pressure or high temperature in a certain tire. This kit has a small screen on my front glass
and it keeps monitoring the four wheels every 2-5 seconds. Recommended!!!

Thanks, I think I may go for a tyre pressure sensor as we are gong to keep the car for quite a while so I think it will be worth it. Thumbs Up
