Limp Mode
Hi all,
Just returned from holiday , towed the tin tent up to Wensleydale, very pretty area had a real good time except for one incident.
Had a drive to Wensleydale Creamery from Leyburn, not a long journey about 20miles, just going up a very short steep incline in the Creamery when the dreaded red warning triangle lights up and the D4 goes into limp mode, to cut it short drive straight back to Leyburn stop for the wife to pop into the shops and on restarting red triangle disappears. Ripon Land Rovers situated on the way back to the site, so stop there to let them have a look. They wire it up and inform me that fault code was showing low turbo pressure, as the warning light had gone out not much more they could do at the time, I was informed to return immediately if the fault re-occurred. I must say the most helpful LR garage I have ever dealt with, even offered me a free valet before I returned home, not that I took up the offer I just thought it was great customer service. Anyway return home after a very fast run not one little incident. My question is what gave me the problem?? Is it likely to re-occur. Is my turbo on its way out (D4's only done 13700mls.) Any ideas to put my mind at rest.Nothing is foolproof as the ingenuity of fools is endless.

Always ignore the first event. Hard I know, but it could just be a one-off and not worth worrying about. If it happens again then off to the dealer to explore the warranty.

Thanks Robbie, just needed to put my brains in order, I don't need to be pulling my twin axle tin tent around the country side worrying about the D4 throwing its self into limp mode.Nothing is foolproof as the ingenuity of fools is endless.

Understood and it is a bit of a worry, but having taken it to a dealer and had the codes read there is not much more you can do. There have been many random D3/D4 faults that have fixed themselves with the very next turn of the key.

Swmbo and I have just returned from Switzerland. Had the same thing whilst going up a 1 in 7 hill with 1,700kgs of caravan on the hook. I did not need a message to tell me that the performance was restricted. Got over the summit, stopped and switched off for 10 minutes. Everything Ok until got to the caravan site and the light came back whilst stationary. Another gentle rest and everything Ok since. Off to the dealers in the morning.

Turbo as such quite unlikely
have not seen much of those (maybe one or two)
most likely TSOV or CSOV valves sticking or throttle body seal leaking
so these engines are hell better than 2.7
