Hello All,
I don't post too much so please bear with me.
I have a TDV6 08 Discovery 3. On two different occasions now whilst driving on the motorway the car has gone into limp home mode. I was driving up a hill put my foot down a little and the car blew out a big black cloud and went into Limp home mode 'ENGINE FAULT.' Pull over, off and back on, no warnings just went back to normal.
The second time I was just cruising building up to 70, 'Engine Fault' a few others and then Gearbox fault as well, same again, pull over, off, back on and no faults. Back to normal.
It has me very worried but everything is working as usual. Any advice?
Many thanks

Can’t comment on the gearbox fault, but engine fault and limp mode are symptoms I get from turbo related issues.
Initial cause for me was a sticking turbo actuator arm.
Not too difficult to try and sort, just a can of wd40 and a coat hanger, 10mm deep socket wrench, and a jack, plus some inginuity in fashioning an extension to your wd40 spray nozzle so you can get the stuff onto the turbo links.
There are plenty of threads on it, some descent. Ive started and replied to a few so have a quick search.
Other option I believe is EGR valves sticking open. Mine are blanked so not an issue.
Ideally you need someone with an IID tool, or similar, to read your fault codes and help narrow it down.

had it once with first D4 … 5 mins into a trip to Southern Italy ! SWMBO didn't spot it for 5 mins as she was on the phone so my youngest googled it to see likely causes. main advice was park for a few mins and restart to see if it's gone away. Due to roadworks, I was 1/2 way to Birmingham before it was safe to pull into the services. tried after 3 mins and it had gone. never came back. .

Maybe check battery connections and voltage especially the earths. Other possibility may be the brake switch.
