I have had my Discovery 3 only for a week, but I cannot believe that there is no headlight on indicator on the dashboard, I keep it on auto and I have to flash the lights (to get the blue indicator) to check if the lights are on when it rains or at dusk, etc.....
Am I missing something here? The older I get, the better I was.

they have, they have!
It is just that they are on the outside of the car. It's a blueish white lamp and you will find it on the front of the car, both sides, near the corners. Ah, you can't miss it just look on the front.
On a more serious note; I'm thinking of changing to daytime running lights, the auto lights come on too late for me.

I find it the other way round. Even if driving in bright sunshine they come on if I go through a small shadowy patch and then don't turn themselves off for aaaaages, if at all (Mine's an 07 so has the 'lights on' indicator )

Yep - that's the one on MY07 onwards. (although I see yours is a MY08).
This indicator lamp was originally used to indicate the FBH (red light) in previous instrument packs (MY05 + MY06) before LR deactivated it completely, but was finally changed to a green lights on indicator and the instrument pack software updated in MY07 to add this feature.2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

How does flashing your lights tell you if your lights are on? If my lights are off and I pull the stork to flash my lights at someone I get a blue indicator light, regardless of whether or not my lights are on. I too don't have the headlight indicator, I just leave them on auto and that seems to put the lights on slightly earlier than I would probably do it myself.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Try pushing the stork instead of pulling it You'll only get a blue main beam indicator if the lights are on 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Yes, no way I can see the time on the clock on the radio. I would have to put my reading glasses on.. It reminds me of one of my bosses some time ago. He said that when he could not see his dashboard well enough, that was the time he decided to get a chauffeur.
Anyway to get those basics with a software update or other? The older I get, the better I was.
