They aren't really 'guards' ...it's a bit more of a visual styling preference tbh 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Agree, doesn't really offer much protection, (especially when you hit a buzzard and smash one).
In winter they can cause a build up of snow thus reducing the power of your headlights.
In summer it's more difficult to clean the dead flies from your lights.
But I do like the look it gives the D4 and had them fitted on mine since new.
Also had them on my D3.

Are these fairly easy to fit?
I just bought a set for the front and i'm planning to chuck them on in an evening. Presumably theres nothing too technically challenging to ovecome?

Yes easy to fit do not take long, from memory the rear ones need to drill into body work and use a rivnut gun but I cannot remeber if it is the same with the front, either way not a long or difficult job.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

If there anything like the D3 the fronts are easy no drilling required. But the rear you have to drill. 2 holes on the outer edge behind the light cluster. Used self tappers on mine and had no issues
