Letter from LR in the next couple of days...
...this was briefly mentioned by someone at the SE Pub Meet on Tuesday night but I got confirmation this evening from "persons anonymous" in the employment of an LR dealer who got an email about it.
In the next few days we will all be getting an invitation through the post from LR to have some 'improvements' made to our D3's - I am informed something hardware wise around the compressor and other software downloads - whether this is any more than the latest WDS 13 Patch 4/5 I don't know.
I invited him to forward on the email to me but he reckoned he'd get the sack if he was found out.
Allegedly their having some difficulty marketing this as an Improvement as opposed to a Recall.... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Yep the Stealers were told to keep it hush
But what does it really matter recall or not if it clears the issues big or small depends on the individuals perception there will be some very happy (not saying we aren’t already) customers and it will prove that LR want to get it right.

I think Landrover have called it an "Enhancement Program" rather than a "Recall" ----- just hope it sorts out some of software problems with mine being an early build

The word 'Recall' has a bit of a stigma and is huge negative PR!
Forgot to say - its a whole day job too - so you're not going to be able to get a D3 in for warranty work or servicing anywhere for the next 3 months because of this! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Oooh....a present ...from LR.....to me........oh they shouldn't of
They could always call it the 'Schwarzenegger' letter. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
This set of updates are "enhancements". A recall in the states at least involves risk of life, limb or property damage. This set of updates include inspection of the compressor, and possible parts update to it, or replacement. There are also a pile of software updates as well, to nearly every system, to bring the software up to the newest level. All of these enhancements should refine and improve the performance of the LR3. In the states, the letters should hit some time in June. The dealers haven't received the necessary technical bulletin, and it seems that LRNA sends the letter and the bulletin @ about the same week. (Sometimes the owners get the info before the dealer).
The D3 is going in for it's second service (24K km) on Monday, here in Melbourne. Checked with the dealer, and the 'enhancement' program is being carried out whilst it's in. Keen to see the results, though (touching wood) up till now it's been superb, other than the replacement of the lower steering arm to fix the 'steering knock' problem.
Economy is good, typically 29-30 mpg, though drops considerably when I hitch the campervan (TVan with drawbar weight of 750kg) dropping to 24mpg, worse if I keep the foot down (= > 95 kph).
Still the best vehicle money can buy! Why have I never felt this way about a 4WD before?
