Leather seat faces, differences?

Looking at a couple of D3 with tan/alpaca leather, one has smooth leather all over the faces the other has a mix of smooth and perforated, just wondering is there was a facelift (the all smooth one is 6 months younger) or an option for different leather?

Yeah. Originally they came with perforated leather. It then got changed to smooth leather (as an option I think?) starting in MY08 or so.

My MY05 HSE has the perforated alpaca leather.

That’s interesting as one is a June and the other September so that sounds right, I wonder if anything else changed that’s worth having on the MY08 version I don’t know about.....

I think later high spec D3 got the elc steering column adjust and the alectric lumbar support, neither really life changers!

Aah, so later model years had smooth/non-perforated leather as default and the perforated was a higher-priced option?

I’m not sure whether perforated is better, I liked your choice of words (“meant”) Whistle

Also, didn’t the steering wheel change in MY08 or MY09 to a nicer (softer?) leather one?

Think it is the other way around, the perforated leather was the standard but the smooth leather was a higher quality finish?

Think it depends on the year

My MY05SE had perforated leather. as did my Brother in Law's MY05HSE - not sure what year the higher specs got the better leather

Viewed the smooth leather one today, good honest car but if that’s high quality leather it really needs a good cleaning because it felt hard and sticky (and was grubby), hopefully the next will seem better.

An uncared for interior can be a sign of an uncared for car, but if rest of the car is solid with a FSH and more importantly, evidence of preventative maintenance, wouldn't necessarily put me off.
Leather does need looking after, do my seats every six months at least with Gliptone - especially drivers.

I’ve used dodo juice products on car leather with several vehicles. Can’t say anything bad of that brand either. Can’t say whether it is better or worse than some other brand. Regular servicing is essential, whatever you do. Thumbs Up

Main dealer service history is a great asset but I’d rather have a full folder of invoices from a LR Indie who loves the cars rather than just working on cars.

Odd juice is the best cleaner I have used in over forty years of dirtying leather......tried all the rest but Dodo just makes a big difference the others take so long to even come near to.

I like their leather smell spray... and the dodo animal (kind of like a wunderbaum but much nicer smell) which you can put somewhere under the seats in the vehicle to do the same. Friends and coworkers tend to comment that the leather smell is awesome. Whistle
