I do tend to agree with you that it's better to pay off your debts for most things but my point was that it is untenable for a huge proportion of the population. Like you ...I am lucky but the only item that I do choose to have credit on is my motor and this is because I figure that if I pay for someone else's depreciation then I can have a brand new motor every few years for a set relatively low deposit & monthly outlay while the mainstay of my considerable savings continue to build and remain intact for other things in life.

It is swings and roundabouts ...my 1st D3 was given back at the height of the 2008 recession and valued £6k below the MGFV estimate ...so that would have stung big time if I was a private owner ...my latest is worth about £5k more than the current outstanding because of lower depreciation.
