Leak from gear box

Hi all

Noticed a drop from underneath! Thought it was the recent oil pump seal change but turns out it’s coming from the gear box outlet screw. It’s coming from above the screw and dripping downwards.

I noticed when I took the skid plate off that it was oily. And looking up there’s a lot of mess. And the gear box oil was about 1 cup full when I recently did the gear oil change.

I’m wondering if this is a tell tale sign please? Of any problem to look for or worry about or ignore.

Thanks

If leak is black and on top of the gearbox that sounds more like engine oil rather than gearbox oil.

Updating again I’ve drained the overfilled engine oil

Still having oil leak it seems to be gold and same colour as gear oil and same location.

Could it be overfilled also maybe or something more sinister?

Didnt you just change your gearbox oil, what oil did you use and how much did you put in?

I used the correct one off AF, if it was overfilled it would have been 0.2L I reckon... If that

There was quarter a bottle left plus bit in the filling tube so pretty sure it wasn’t majorly overfilled

However I did see a lot of leakage and on the skid plate so wondering if it’s an existing problem from old owner maybe

I dont know about the manual gearbox but on the Autos theres breather tubes on top of the gearbox that are extended to just underneath the vacuum pump on the rear of the engine, its possible its coming out of there?

If so the breather may be blocked or kinked

I cannot offer much more help, but it springs to mind, have you checked the gearbox oil level? is it the correct oil?

I do not know what is on top of the manual trans, am assuming the breather is up there, I have seen gearboxes push oil out of the breather as wrong spec oil fitted.

I think you need a good clean under there to see exactly what is leaking and from where.

Thats definetly coming from the breather area.
I would try removing the gearbox filler plug and see if any oil comes out.
The gearbox needs to be warm and the engine switched off
