Later D4.5 Headlights with DRL

A question for the forum. I'm considering upgrading the front of my 2012 D4 which has Xenon headlamps to the later D4.5 Xenon with the nice DRLs.

I've checked the pinout for the connectors and the only additional wire needed is to power the DRL input. How do I do this on my vehicle? Is it a case of building a circuit with a relay that provides an ignition feed to the lights and switches off when the side lights are turned on? Or is the wire already present in the harness? Do I need to populate the connector for this pin or can it all be done inside the light?

Thanks in advance.

I've got some RIGID Industries LED Driving lights to fit, so I'm not worried in that respect, but it's a good point.

I did the same and they are plug and play.

All you need to do is enable them in the CCF with an IID tool.

Caveat-the flash wont work without your headlamps on and I havent bothered do the mod to make this work.

A kind sole did send me the "how to", but even with that it was way beyond my capabilities Big Cry

Isn't headlight flash a mandatory requirement for MOT etc?

This is what I was sent:

"Basically you need to run power from the battery, to the lamps via a relay. The relay will be triggered from the high beam wire. Here's a simple diagram. Ignore the other feed to my spots. The other diagram shows the PIN numbers and wire colours on the plug you tap into. Really easy to do"

I don't think it is, I know they check main beam alignment, but not spot lamp alignment. You don't need to have main beam enabled, but I think the Xenons will flash anyway. If not, you can simply turn the lights on if you need to flash someone.

on MY2009-2013 you have the Bi-Xenon (low/high beam) AND the H7 highlamp (on each headlamp)

on MY2014-2016 you have ONLY the Bi-Xenon

I'm not so worried about main beam, I think that's fixable, it's the issue with pin 8 on the new lamps for the 24 LEDs on the DRL.

Those are my diagrams Phillip Thumbs Up

Just enable 'DRL Standard' using the iid tool and the DRLs will work.

As for high beam, you shouldn't fail an MOT as the lights are turned on when they flash them. They will however need to have a simple modification to allow the bulbs to light up when flashing main beams whilst dipped are turned off.
I spent weeks researching through this site and even offered to pay some professional to do it for me. They wanted an extortionate amount of money and couldn't achieve what I wanted. So off I went with my research and solved it myself. I asked them if they'd follow the diagram and carry out the job for me. They told me it's the Same price! I told them to stuff it and I'd attempt it myself. They then emailed me asking for the diagrams, pretty cheeky. Anyway, it's a simple fix, you can teach yourself using YouTube easily enough.
