Land Rover will not update audio

An unusual post this.

Had my 2014 D4 2 months on approved used scheme, cost £26K.

Purchased from a dealer not local to me, but with 1 year warranty and at my own cost 1 extra year extended warranty.

D4 was in local dealer today to fix a couple of minor routine warranty items, and also to re-look at an annoying audio problem which has been prevalent since day 1 of ownership with the audio system, sound and connection intermittently cuts out, regardless of audio source.

On picking up the car today, I was told and I will quote as best I can remember:

"We have been instructed by Land Rover not to carry out any audio updates until further notice on any Land Rovers as some of the updates have been making problems worse rather than better"

So it's been suggested to me to rebook another appointment. Presumably with a new £180 diagnostic charge.

Is this for real? Apparently all dealers have been instructed the same?
ast time, but I absolutely get the impression that they do not want warranty customers.

They have had my car twice for this now and so far I have done more diagnosis with my iiD than they have, I have provided them with all the fault codes, and I am certain that they have no interest in helping me.

I'd suggest at the point that they say that to you, you should request it in wiring for your records and request that any further diagnostic fees are waived due to them having already diagnosed the problem but not rectified it. I don't understand why they'd charge you a diagnostic fee for a warranty repair either.

It wouldn’t be the first time that LR had stopped software updates because of problems reported at update. It’s usually temporary though. My 2017 Fatty had a similar thing happen when it was about a year old where all of the cars with rear seat entertainment were excluded from updates for several months because the updates were causing unexpected problems.

Are infotainment software updates still be developed for D4’s by LR?

It doesn’t sound like a software problem to me more like hardware or loose connection, I have the same model year and do not have any problems except for DAB reception which is poor in my area.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Of course the dealers don't want warranty work.

Why work for £55 per hour for a warranty company when you can get the retail work in at £180...

They don't tell us the actual reasons just send out an instruction not to do something.

Why?... Likely that they have discovered something that was undesirable in the latest software update & are suspending using it until a rewritten one is ready.

That's better than just blindly allowing a known glitch to be written to the vehicle.

Steve

Its probably a glitch in the current software update, makes sense - any software release program in any kind of industry would halt deployment or initiate a code freeze until its resolved. especially if its being deployed on customer equipment as it risks making things worse or bricking it.
