My wife and I decided to have a look at a couple of new cars today a D4 and Mercedes E class cabriolet so I got first choice straight in to Land Rover's showroom ,wander round the showroom I then feel must go and find a salesman .I found a salesman and we explained that we were looking to move from our D3 to a newer D4 all the time he's looking over the other side of the show room why ?they had a car just on budget at £30k I said could we have a look and a test drive as I had ask if I could earlier on the phone ,so he opened it up from one side of busy main road and sent us over to look 5 minutes later he said that's all he could do as he had an important customer waiting back in the showroom but he would phone me right after he finished with them guess what still not heard from him . My wife was less than impressed and said she had had enough and wanted to go and have at Mercedes , what a different story 2 minutes in showroom coffee in hand listened to what we were looking for test drive for1/2 an hour back tomorrow to get a P/X value on her Merc ,who would rather spend your hard earned cash with ? It sounds a bit like my expereince with BMW. I was a cash buyer looking to purchase another 535d MSport estate. Salesman just couldn't be arsed (no commision kick back on finance agreement) so went to Mercedes. Great service and I bought my first Merc.
The best bit was that I told two mates who were also looking at new cars about my experience. Both went to the same BMW dealer and both bought Mercs
The bit I enjoyed, was telling the sales prat / brat in the follow up ' have you thought any more' call that his behaviour had lost him over £150k worth of sales in that month and that those potential customers he had lost had also told others about their experiences. Funnily enough, he left a few months after
Companies only survive by the way they relate to their customers. As consumers we have lots of choice. The level of care, interest and service I recieved at Mercedes lead to the purchase of several cars and many years of happy ownership. Interestingly I dealt with the same sales guy for over 6 years at Mercedes and he's still there. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Yep Deja Moo we buy from people and the sooner that salesmen work that out the better ,I told the salesman that just how impressed I was with his sales technique and then he explained when he had gone for a job with Audi the sales manager asked how easy would it be to sell Audi's he had replied easy as it was an upmarket product the sale manager told him people who could afford a new car were successful and not to be taken as fools as to have amassed enough money to purchase one they are money savvy

Make sure to tell the Sales Manager too. I looked at an E Class before I bought my first Freelander 2 and you're right, they put a lot of thought into making you feel welcome (and special) when you arrive.
I've looked at a Mercedes in 1994, 2002 and again in 2011 and the experience has been first class each time. It was only the cars themselves that put me off (which was a shame, as I really wanted to like them). You asked "who would (you) rather spend hard your hard earned cash with?"; my answer would have to be "neither". Have you tried Yeovil and/or Matford Land Rover?
PS: It was an chalk and cheese choice your good lady had set up between an E Class cabrio and a D3, a choice I'd really not make based on the quality of the dealer's Sales Prople! I've now just had a vision of me trying to remove the twin axle, Ifor Williams, trailer from the far side of a friend's field with an E Class cabrio! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Hi John I would like to give you an example of how good salesman sell , we went out one weekend to look at cars as you do. Having just sold my M5 I had money in pocket burning a hole !! pop in to Porsche and get the full monty test drive etc. Salesman asks if I am interested in the car I replied that much as we loved the car my wife might find it a bit uncomfortable on her back - seemed a good way out. "Well you best take it for a weekend and see how she gets on then" !!! .Yep I brought a 911 and happy as can be. Have had it 4 years and loved every minute. Not only that but when I looked at a trade in price on we steal any car they offered £4k less than I'd paid for it which I didn't think was bad going considering they always quote under value.
We're off to Falmouth next weekend so we'll toot as we go past! Land Rover 90 - deceased

Without wanting to belittle, be rude, condescending, derogitary, or any pre-fix phobic....
Sales people flogging cars are quite a mixed bag...ranging from professional / pleasant to deal with through to unprofessional / pains in the .
I could write a book on the Jaguar XK experience...
But they all earn thier crust on the actual sale....
They make on:
Your trade in being sold off....
The actual sale to you of the vehicle you take on....
The finance package you may have to use...
The gap insurance, extended warranties, service packages....
Usually - Four bites at the cherry....just buying a vehicle cash (like I did with the XK) without a trade in, no finance package, no add-ons means thier "slice" is drastically diminished.
Same transaction but thier take-home isn't as big
What winds me up is in a sale where they have to go & ask the dealer principle if the deal is a goer or not...you know they have to ask this guy in his office without you there.....you are made to feel like a beggar....it always amuses me when the peer out of thier office window to see what you look like. As if.
The place where this hasn't happened to me is Hursts in Belfast....& not just with one sales person (aka "executive")....who have made huge mistakes are:
Jaguar - Manchester.....threatening surly behaviour......"you haven't any other options" we had we walked out
Jaguar - Bradford....gave prices higher than thier website....despite me having a print out in my hand
Jaguar - LEEÐS (the guy was on something.....possibly alcohol....)
LR - Huddersfield....badgering me with phone calls...even when we just said "no thanks"...very unprofessional....shame they were good at one time.
LR - LEEÐS..... just not interested - quite ignorant.[/i]
I have browsed in many others ranging from the one that sells Buggatti in Berkely Square...down to Skoda in Wakefield...took interest, were informative didn't patronise. BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Over past couple of years had the same experience at 2 the 2 Landrover garages near me. (no sales to them, just travelled a little further afield)
I'm no salesman, but would of thought making an impression that you were the most important customer that day, or minute even, a good way to make a sale.
Still cannot understand the reasoning behind belittling a customer by making them feel 2nd class D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST
