Land Rover Spotlights????
Hi all,
Has anyone got these fitted to their vehicles? Part # XQB500080-Land Rover Discovery 3 Driving Light Kit.
If so, how do you find them? Are they easy enough to install? Where's cheapest to get them, I've seen them all over tinternet but at vastly varying prices. And finally what's the definitive answer as to how they should be wired up? I've read quite a bit about 'how to' on the forum but folk still have different opinions as to how and why. I'd want them to go off when I go onto full beam so as not to blind oncoming drivers, does this make a difference as to the switch, no switch argument?
Thanks for looking.Java Black 2007 TDV6 SE

I got TFC to make me a LOOM as I got my Driving lights cheap off ebay, without the loom. TBH, if you have xenons fitted to your D3, these will make little difference.

Mac,
Can you tell me what diameter the LR driving lamps are?
Thanks,
Ian.

Ebay or on here is a good place to look.
Mine are wired up as you suggested and come on with the main beam, but I also have a switch so that you can stop them from coming on with the main beam, but you cannot switch them on without the main beam being on. Which I believe is the OEM way of having them fitted.
In terms of are they any good, as Jason says, if you have Xeons then these make little difference. I ot mine primarily because I wanted the look and I was fortunate in that I already had the wiring in place from a previous owner.
I won't tell you how much I paid as it will make you cry. But you can get them cheapilyD3 HSE MY05 Auto

I always think the genuine LR D3 spotlamps look a bit weedy - OK if you've got an A bar, but on their own just not in keeping with the size of the car - which is why I've got the older LR safari 5000 lamps (STC8480 I think). 9" diameter, so a bit chunkier and suit the car. some pics in my gallery.

nu2it i have these fitted
They are the genuine LR ones they look good but thats all
They dont make much difference at all.
I would save my cash and get some xenons as already stated much better for night time up here Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!
Its possible to convert the LR spots to HID - this will give a much better and useable light. Otherwise as said above, the OEM xenon main beam will swamp the light from the LR spots.
Or add spots from other manufacturers (Lightforce, RooLite etc). I have LF170's and as a pencil beam they compliment the xenons when on full beam. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Question(s)???? As far as I know I've got bog standard headlights.
How can I tell if I do have Xenons? If I have, what spot lights are recommended to be effective with them and do I therefore need spots at all?
If I haven't got Xenons can I put Xenon bulbs in place of the standard bulbs and again which spots will work with them?
If above is not possible can I get Xenon spots, which ones are recommended?
Bearing all of the above in mind do I need to change any of the wiring to accomodate an upgrade to the aforementioned Xenons.
Thanks for looking. Any recommendations will be gratefully received Java Black 2007 TDV6 SE

The xenons will have a "globe" in them if you look at the front. Or switch them on whilst looking into the headlights and if you go blind you have xenons...

Either spots that are HID. Or something like Lightforce, Roo, Hella Illuminators etc. Not LR spots or cheapo ebay ones. Do you need them...? well if all you are after is a bit more light, then converting to xenon headlights will be better than halogen plus spots.

You have to change the units, not bulbs.

as above

yes...but they ain't cheap...

No - simple plug and play. A pair of xenon headlights will be the same (possibly cheaper) than HID spots. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

the other way is to look at the colour of the light from your headlamps - if yours are a crisp blue white, then likely to be xenons, if a cream/yellow light then halogens.
nu2it - your tag says you've got an SE, so should have xenons
