My actuator packed in too recently and another member pointed out that you don’t need to buy a full replacement from LR. A mk5 ford fiesta/fusion rear tailgate actuator is identical. Can be bought on eBay for £10. Sorry it’s too late for you, but may help someone else in need. Simon from Powerfuluk has a YouTube video describing this.

Thanks NavyDoc, I did see that, but to be honest wouldn't have gone with one anyway.
Having been through the utter mess you find yourself in with my D3 years ago when the actuator stops working and you've not fitted a Manual backup I wouldn't buy a cheap EBAY Ford orientated one.
I'd imagine there are plenty of cheap low cost/quality ones out there aimed at Ford Fiestas, and I wouldn't take the risk for the cost of a new genuine LR one at £79.
I'm a cheapskate at the best of times, but there are some things it's just false economy to skimp on.
Just my opinion of course.

I see where you are coming from Nasher, but the LR actuator is stamped FOMOCo, hence it is actually a ford part. Given the number of people of here who have experienced actuator failure from the original OEM LR solenoid, I’d rather but a cheaper equivalent and fit a manual release with the pennies saved. Perhaps that’s just my Scottish genes speaking 😂

Sorry, not sure I got my point across really.
Buying a cheap replacement unit for a Fiesta is a risk.
There are possibly thousands more Fiestas on the road than D3/4s, and they are more likely to be run on a tight budget than a D3/4, or being repaired as cheaply as possible by non-franchised dealers moving them on at the less controlled end of the used car market.
That makes them far more of a target for traders supplying poor quality or even blatant counterfeits of parts than something like a D3/4.
It would be interesting to see what the Genuine Ford price is for the actuator, as that’s the one I’d be buying if cheaper than the LR one.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

While it’s nominally true you get what you pay for, I’d rather pay £10 for an actuator from an aftermarket parts manufacturer and a fiver for a chair reclining puller to diy an entire solution for this problem, than buy a full actuator. For the switch an aftermarket part can be had for a tenner, and these just pop out anyway.
£25 for a complete work over versus about £100 for an oem actuator seems a good deal to me.

I fitted one of these manual latches from Landrover Passion a while ago.
It is well designed, made and fits looking like a factory part.
My actuator failed and this proved its worth, as i could pull it from in the boot popping the upper hatch enabling me to then opethe lower and replace the actuator.
A lot less messing than if it were not fitted.
Also very handy for camping out in the car.
I would recommend one.

Just an update/word of warning!
You know how if you unlock the car but don't open any of the doors, then it will do an automatic relock after a few minutes, which is all very sensible...
Well, if you unlock the car with you inside it, and exit the vehicle via the tailgate using the LRP tailgate latch, it will still do that automatic relock once you are out. I was lucky, the upper tailgate was still open, so the locks all clicked and the horn sounded to let me know a door was open...but I could easily have shut the upper tailgate, with the keys still inside! Previously:

Fitted mine at the weekend, works a treat. Not a difficult job but I'm always a bit cautious (slow) when taking trim apart for the first time. Instructions are pretty good. Happy with the result
