Land Rover Party 2009, Les Comes, Barcelona
Last weekend was the 3rd edition of the Land Rover Party (link in Spanish) in the private estate of Les Comes in Barcelona, Spain.
It is probably the biggest LR event in the country and attracts visitors from all over europe (ok, a few from France, Portugal and Germany but you get the idea)....LRE UK are usually present but didn't see them this year...
Les Comes (link in English) is a private estate and is home to the only LR Experience centre on the Iberian pensinsular. It has some 60km of private tracks, all of them mapped, signposted and labelled as green, red or black. It is seen as the ancestral home of LR in Spain by many and has long links with the Camel Trophy.
Our very own headlamp-modifying genius Verydisco was there on Sunday and I know that XTC has been there a few times but couldn't attend this year.
It was a weekend-long event, but I only had permission to attend for the Saturday
Here's a few photos to see if I can't tempt some of you to come over next year
Just after arrival first thing in the morning and getting ready to find a nice cup of coffee:

Straight through a small stream and directly to the black slopes Although it looks like a camera trick, it was quite a severe lateral angle. When I got out to take the photo, the -end of the D3 slid 6 inches sideways due to the wet tyres.
(notice the ex-Bodsy lights and grill after 12 hours of sanding, priming, painting, varnishing and oven-curing).

Waiting for the nutter in the FL2 to come down the track in the wrong direction so that we can continue upwards....

The estate as seen from the top of the mountain (almost devoid of LRs as they're all out playing in the hills):

Giving it gas to try and traction (even if it is sideways) up the slate hill:

The view from my D3 before starting:

Negotiating the 60cm step on a 30 degree downhill track (it doesn't look it in the photo, but it was very steep).....the D3 in the picture didn't go slow enough and nearly tipped

13:00hrs.....time for lunch....everyone down the hill now!!

To give you an idea, this was either a green or red (can't remember which):

Some of the guys from the spanish D3 forum after lunch (I'm the good looking one 4th from right at the back ):

The guy with the camera obviously thought this was a good place to stand as I came sliding down the rocks with wet tyres

Wanted to come to this since seeing it advertised last year - I think I really need to get down for 2010. (And Manresa is only 30 minutes from Mataro So thats no problem for accomodation - if a few people come down I can see if the in-laws will allow some mature, sensible and wll behaved guests at the house). The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeksnearly 4 weeksover 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

looks excellent (got a look of the route to my sisters) - let us know the dates ASAP for next year because L'Ampolla's not a million miles a way for me either Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
Steve - its always been advertised at the same period around the second last week of October. So easy to plan for next year... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
