Land Rover Insurance renewal

This merry morn mr postie brought me my renewal for my LRIns policy.

Thought it was a good news, bad news picture. First the good news, it was still with Royal & Sun Alliance as opposed to the new company that has taken over the new policies. The new company doesn't cover Tunisia, RSA does, wippeeeee!

Bad news was the price, £775!!!

Then realised that was for TWO cars (policy for both D3s), excellent considering the renewal last year for my car was over £600 alone, now both for under £400 each. Phoned up and bit their arm off at that price, didn't even try and haggle!

Happy Days!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Have just got quote from LR insurance (don't know who the insurers are - just the ones LR use to give the 7-day free insurance with my new-to-me car) for full year. Slightly worried to find that more than 50% above what the NFU are charging for my current BMW 530d (being px'd against the D3)

Had to phone NFU anyway to let them know about the new car, which has a value around 4x the BMW. And no change in premium Thumbs Up so very happy with that, won't be switching to LR insurance!

Sounds like the new crowd, purely from the Tunisia point of view I'm glad I'm still with RSA, low cost is a big bonus though! Thumbs Up

I had the free 7 day insurance for my Disco' and when the formal quote turned up a week later it was around £200 (or 33%) cheaper than my current company (itself around £90 cheaper than anywhere else). I didn't change as about 5 months in and building up the NCB after 18 years of company cars

However as the only details I provided the dealer were my name and address and a photocopy of my licence, just the plastic part (for the test drive) I can only assume they "filled in the blanks" themselves so quote could be for full NCB or nothing, I have no clue, but will get them to requote again when renewal time comes up.

I had similar using a search engine comparator site. Lowest was just under £600, the highest was over £2k and then a raft of "unable to quote" one's as well. The variability in cover/excess, etc. was just as varied. Can understand "picking your customers" but in this day and age of the computer would ANYBODY pick the £2k one's Shocked

I tried Adrian Flux as I'd heard they were good for off road cover. Anyway they use RSA as well and the quote was for £400, which seems pretty good to me. So I am going to switch from Direct line as I'm not confident that they would pay out on anything offroad. The RSA also covers business use to multiple locations and also covers me for 4x4 response.

SE and HSE are higher insurance groups than Base, GS, S and XS - this caused my LR Insurance Premium of £400 to go to £600 last year

I know that they used to accept a letter from the company you work for, saying that you have had company cars home & for private use for X amount of years.

Or is this why you have the 2yrs NCD?

That's where i started again, as i always had service vehicles home with me, i'm now upto 75% NCB.
