Land Rover G4 Challenge D3 enjine rebuild
Hi.
Hope I am at the right place. Starting to rebuild an overheated Disco 3 2006 TD V6. JLR South Africa have put me in touch with the engineering company that repairs this particular engine. The block is bored out and sleeves pressed in and then taken back to standard piston and rings.
Overheated engine did not seize up because I can freely turn the crank.
Head on the turbo side is cracked and the cylinder is cracked (hence the re-bore)
I am doing this job at home with a Land Rover Mechanic over week ends. Any pointers as to what should be replaced while the engine is out will be appreciated.
I cannot buy a new engine as it is way out of my pay bracket so this is my only option.
All the belts and tensioners will be replaced and I see it is advisable to change the oil pump.
All the help I can get will be greatly appreciated.
Pity Disco Mikey was not my neighbor.
Regards

So the original owner is a pen pusher (no offence) and ignored all the warnings and drove it until it stopped. The mechanic helping me, towed it in and did a compression test and leak test and advised the owner of the damage (blown head gasket) It would seem like the plastic reservoir just behind the radiator cracked and water was leaking out for quite a while as this broken when removed.
So the list I have so far is
All belts and tensioners.
Oil Pump
Turbo out and being serviced
All gaskets and seals
New rings and pistons
Big ends and mains
Anything else?
Oh yes, Landy has done 220000 Kilos[/img]

New water pump
New coolant bridge in V and water inlet on side of engine unless they look new.

If the engine has been driven until it stopped (seized), it is scrap
I wouldn't waste a single penny trying to repair that engine. Either a recon crate engine or a good 2nd handMy D3 Build Thread

Thank you all for your input.
Disco Mikey. My question to you Sir is can I open the engine up and send you some pics of the crank, etc. When I say driven until stopped I am not sure if it actually seized. I am i contact with the original owner and I will confirm exactly how far it was driven when warning lights came on.
Thank you kindly for the input so far and I will definitely pursue the crate engine.
