Land Rover Experience Scotland
Has anyone on here done the half day Experience at Dunkeld?
I've been booked onto a half day trip after buying my D4, but after speaking to them today they only have a Range Rover Vouge, D5 or Eboak available for the days I can make it. Seems they only stock the current fleet so no D4 option I was initially booked into the D5, but after having a loan of one for a few weeks while my D4 was away being painted I can safely say I'll never be owning one in the future.
At the moment I'm booked in the RR, but they also mentioned I can use my own D4 with instruction if I want.
Has anyone done this?
I've done a ton of driving off road in the Defender, but never in anything I was worried about scratching. Obviously I'm fairly worried about scratching the HSE Lux
Thought and opinions on both options would be appreciated 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

I'd be quite happy with a Defender... but they don't have that as an option either
No point in using my own Defender as that goes off road regularly anyway (see left <<<<< ) and I've done a few training days with it, so would be a bit of a waste doing the same stuff again2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

I've been a few times to Dunkeld.
One of the times we went on the bring your own land rover day.
They put us round there own course a few times in the morning before taking us to another off road area further up the A9 was quite testing but from memory there was no scratchy bits.
There own course when I was there also didn't contain any scratchy bits

as you say only current models.available...we did a trec day there with our own car,and did part of their offroad section...with no scratchy bits.
if you really want to use yours tell them of your concerns...they don't like scratching theirs as it doesn't look good...I would drive theres..if you bend it no problem....if you bend yours you will be putting it right

thanks for the replies
They did say that most of the things we would be doing are safe enough unless I didn't listen to the instructor 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

I’ve done Dunkeld. There’s nothing taxing nor scratchy tbh. I’ve done it a few times now. Last time Gilbert - the head instructor, pointed where he wanted me to go and said nothing else about driving. It was all about medical stuff, so I am not in a hurry to go back anytime soon.

I was out the Discovery 3 not long after they were introduced
Check out the MOT history of their Experience motor, never had a full pass in its life
always had advisories or fails

Well the question has actually been answered by myself before I even asked it
Totally forgot that my D4 is going back in to have the drivers rear screen looked at that week, so I'll have a D5 on loan... again
So looks like it'll be their RR then. That should be interesting2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

Completed the half day session in a rather nice Range Rover Vogue LWB with massage seats... very surreal while tackling a side slope steep enough to have the wing mirrors scraping the floor
fortunately I was out with one of the more senior instructors (might have been because the car was apparently worth £160000 ) who gave some excellent guidance based on my previous offroad knowledge and he actually put quite a bit more trust in my skills than I was expecting.
Not having done it before I'm not too sure if he skipped over the basic stuff so I wasn't bored, but it felt like he did
My Mrs only got out of the car once (for the side slope) so that speaks volumes about how safe she felt doing it
Great day out in some fantastic surroundings 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

I did a half day with my wife, in a D5..
The instructor we had was excellent, knew his stuff, explaining differences in what was in the D3, over the D5. He certainly knew the specs... very helpful.
Great experience.

I’d just bought my last D4 in 2016 and the LRE that I went to promised me faithfully that I would be able to use their D4 to do my half day. When I arrived on the day, all the D4’s were lined up, but they’d just been decommissioned and only D5’s were available.
I wasn’t best pleased about being short changed and waited for them to find something half decent 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Went past Dunkeld yesterday on my way north. It was misty, wet, cold and miserable, oh and pretty dark at 3.30pm.
That said we’d stopped at Pitlochry and partaken of a rather nice fish supper take away.
