Land Rover Assist - post warranty
My warranty expires today and I've decided not to extend it however can someone confirm if it's possible to purchase just the LR Assist part and if so how much can I expect to pay ? and who should I contact to sort it out ?
I expect it to be more expensive that the AA or RAC but knowing how technical the D3 is I'd rather pay extra for a better chance of getting back on the road ( fingers crossed I never have to use it of course ).
i was talking to a forum member about this same thing earlier this week
Apparently he had a letter from LRA saying his way about to expire and if you wish you can purchase the Assist portion only....MrH is te guy so want to askTLO has left the building.......

At £190 for 12 months LRA which gives you European cover and off road recovery I didn't think twice.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

The good thing about having this with the extended warranty is that they carry spares such as the compressor which would be replaced with no charge under the warranty.
Bit steep at £1050.00, but worth it I think.

Mine ran out last week....
I have called LRA twice in nearly 3 years, once because I couldn't find the locking wheel nut key and the other with a dodgy compressor. Whoever it was that turned up to each call out, just called out a truck to take it to the dealers.
Personally I think LRA is a lot of money for the same service from many cheaper alternatives....

OK spoke with LRA today they confirmed that assist is available on it's own. Cost is £190 for 12 months or you can take out a Direct Debit for £17.89 a month, Full premium is £214.70 with APR of 23.19% .
The blurb : As a member of Land Rover Assistance you can be assured that you will receive prompt and efficient assistance whether you suffer mechanical or electrical breakdown, immobilisation through road accident damage, by fire or theft, or even if you have accidentally run out of fuel or simply lost your car keys.
If you want LRA on its own then you need to call 0500 011936, they will send you a couple of documents to read ( via email or post ) which details whats included and excluded. Once you have agreed they will take payment.
For info this is whats covered ( and exclusions )
The Assistance provides:
Within the UK you are covered for :
• Home and Roadside Assistance
• Storage
• Car Hire
• Onward Travel/Hotel
Accommodation
• Vehicle Redelivery
Within Europe you are covered for:
• Roadside Assistance and Recovery
• Vehicle Repatriation
• Storage
Chauffeur Service
• Parts Delivery
• Onward Travel/Hotel
Accommodation
• Car Hire
• Message Service
• Additional UK car hire if you
vehicle is repatriated in Europe
Land Rover Assistance will not pay for:• Any expense incurred without the
prior authorisation of Land Rover
Assistance.
• Pre-existing defects
• Any expense that would have
normally been payable by you, such
as petrol and toll charges.
• The cost of replacement parts,
unless covered by Land Rover
Warranty.
• Any costs resulting from
participation in motor racing,
rallies, speed or duration testing.
• Any costs resulting from yourvehicle being kept in an
unroadworthy condition, or not
being serviced in accordance with
the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
• Any costs resulting from you being
under the influence of intoxicating
liquor, solvent abuse or drugs.
• Any consequential losses arising
directly or indirectly from the
immobilisation.
• Damage or injury intentionally
caused by you or resulting from
your participation in a criminal act
or offence.
That's saved me typing it all up later - hope that answers your question about the car DSL LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Do the same cheaper alternatives know anything about your pride and joy though,do they carry parts, access to GTR,parts accounts at dealerships, lock out senario's,spare locking wheel nut keys,Full IDS landrover diagnosics,go off road to recover/retrieve you, replacement car i could go on and on and on..£190 you compare the same level/benfits you get with the yellow vans and orange vans, you might find it's cheaper.
When you get a truck it might be because a technician has had an input to wether he could had fixed it or not...

Depends on your experiences I suppose. I'm currently a member of the AA, have been for years. This is mainly for cover to my van and anything else I travel in.
LRA are far superior, in my personal experience to the AA. Like you I have only called them a few times, but have never been let down. Another key factor for me was the wife drives it a lot and having someone come to the car who knows what their doing as opposed to the AA tech who may not.

Anyone know if you can get a personalised version of LRA? i.e. cover for any Land Rover you happen to be travelling in.
Although my D3 is covered until next March by the LRA that came when I bought the vehicle, I also have an RAC UK & European personal cover for my D1 (or any other vehicle that I may break down in).
If I just had the D3 I would renew my LRA but if it will only cover a specific vehicle, renewing it and my RAC cover will be cost prohibitive.
