Although mine was dealer fitted, it hooks over the top of the tailgate, with an adhesive strip to secure. It also needs the tailgate handle removing, and some rivnuts fitting. Its not hard to do, if you have a rivnut setting tool. A correct size bolt and packing washers can also fit and secure a rivnut, but the proper tool is easiest.

Thanks Gareth, thats a few questions answered , i thought that they would be bolted in at the top of the tailgate. I don't have the tools but it might be a job for the local stealer over here to do (worried about future warranty issues as disco is only 6 months old). Just wondering about what weight they will take, are they quite a robust bit of kit Question Question

I am no heavyweight! (although the wife has me thinking I am). It seems pretty sturdy to me, I am 12.5 stone and it is rock solid with me.

The only thing I would say is to make sure you fit some tread grip tape on each rung as the paint finish is slippy when wet.

I think i will take the plunge and order, get them fitted by the dealer thats local to me over here. I suppose that i will only find out if they will take my weight is by getting myself on them being that i am probably another 6 stone heavier than 12 stone. I was maybe 12 stone when i was 12 years old. Many thanks for the tip of the non slip tape as i can see me using them quite a bit to utilise the expo rack. Have found so far its a little difficult from the side espeacially with SWMBO giving me grief to get it packed and get on the road to go home.

Thats put my mind at rest as i had visions of me getting myself on there and me the ladder, the tailgate being in a mess all over the road. Right its off to get it ordered and fitted to the displeasure of her in doors. Always winging that i spend to much on this Disco and that i didn't on the last one.

If you fit it yourself, make sure that you re-connect the electrics before replacing the trim. If you don't, the trim has to come off again to connect. Door won't open otherwise. I'm 17.5 stone and the ladder's pretty firm for me. I used bolts with Bakerlok instead of rivnuts.

Does the rear ladder impede the opening of the rear tailgate at all?

No, the only thing is that the extra weight causes the upper tailgate to close easier.
