So, currently 2 fault codes on the engine.

Engine TDV6

P023D-22 (68) Manifold absolute pressure - turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor A correlation - General signal failure - signal amplitude>maximum
P0101-17 (68) Mass or volume air flow - circuit range/performance - General electrical failure - circuit voltage above threshold

Check out the wiki, will give you some ideas to trace

https://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/P023D For the manifold error

And here for the other one https://bellautoservices.co.uk/p0101/

Gives you a place to start if you haven’t already covered them

Thanks.

I had found the link in the Wiki before. The MAF has already been replaced, so it could be a faulty turbo, especially at 167,000 miles, with no record of replacement.

Where is the temperature sensor mentioned in the BAS link located?

Glen.

It’s part of the sensor fitting so if you’ve already replaced that it may be the wiring harness.

Silly question, as it appears that
P0101-17 Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor “A” Circuit Range/Performance
Possible Causes: Intake system blocked/leaking Mass air flow and temperature sensor
Action: Check the intake system for blockages/leaks

When was the last time you cleaned / replaced the air filter?

Worth disconnecting the air intake just after the MAS and running the engine, see if you're getting ‘suck’ then have a look from air Intake through to maf.

You seam to have looked at all the tech reasons, could be a simple issue? (Can but hope)

Either, the turbo actuator rod is not as free you believe it to be . The turbo hoses are not as intact you believe them to be. Or there is a crack present in either the inlet manifold or intercooler.

Or, a combination of the above.

Check everything again carefully then pull the p/s intercooler hose off and report back how much oil drains out.

Thanks for the further advice chaps.

The air filter is perfectly clean and looks to be a K&N one fitted by the previous owner.

I ran the car with the air filter cover off and put my hand over the MAF, there is loads of suction and my hand gets pulled onto it, the inlet hose on the manifold intake gets sucked in and the car almost stalls.

Where is the inlet manifold prone to cracking? I can take a look at that.

With a cold engine spray some brake cleaner judiciously over the manifold. If the engine note changes (rpm) the manifold is cracked!

Censored ! Didn't have enough brake cleaner left.

Laughing They never do put enough of the stuff in the can.

Be careful using this method though as I'm sure you know it's highly flammable and potentially dangerous!

That's the reason for using it on a cold engine, but even so, you might find that you no longer require that very long awaited hair cut if used without due care!

I used the brake cleaner method which worked well for me, mine was leaking on on the edge just before it drops down for the injectors. I had to lift the insulation out of the way.
The other method you can use is book it into a garage with a smoke generator.

Tried spraying the inlet manifold with plenty of brake cleaner this evening and there was no change in revs, so I guess it's not cracked.

After reading another post about a sticking VNT mechanism on the turbo, I have added a can of Wynns Diesel turbo cleaner to the fuel. Probably a long shot but worth a try.

Are you still getting P0101-17?

That's telling you there's still a poor connection on the MAF sensor!

PROFSR G,

Will check again and see if it is still there. Is there any way of checking values at the MAF sensor to determine where the poor connection is?
