What fault codes are present now, and what MY is your D3?

Sorry about the delay in replying. Only this one for the engine: -

Engine TDV6

P0101-17 (68) Mass or volume air flow - circuit range/performance - General electrical failure - circuit voltage above threshold

I think that's a new one!

It's a 57 registration, so 2007 MY.

Back again!

EGR faults - The EGRs have been blanked by a previous owner. This has been done by removing the link pipes between the EGR valves and the inlet manifold, and blanking the ports. Is this correct, or should the valves themselves be removed.

Glen.

Check that they’ve also removed the butterfly valve when they blanked the egrs, easily forgotten.

On a side note, most of us leave the link pipes intact. Blanking is an mot failure, and while the tester isn’t allowed to remove covers and poke around, and therefore normally can’t tell that it’s been done, missing 2ft long shiny pipes are a big give away

Thanks, I will check the butterfly valve. I use a garage for MOTs that hate EGR valves, so I don't think they will be looking too hard!

Err...nope, you've been here before! Sad If it was a hose it's likely there would be a constant fault, so given it's intermittent either the MAF is at fault or the wiring to it! Check the plug and the wiring into it as on MY07> it can be very tangled leading to cracking / damage of the sheathing or copper. It's not uncommon for the MAF to throw faults and a lot of the time its just the plug or the wiring. Sometimes though it's the MAF itself. Thumbs Up

PROFSR G,

You're absolutely right, that code has come up before. Have been really busy with work 6 days a week and repairing our horsebox on Sundays, so have only just go back to looking at the Disco. I have just checked the MAF wiring and it looks absolutely fine, as is the connector but I gave it a spray of contact cleaner, just in case. Might need a new MAF then.

Glen.

See how often it reoccurs and if its a regular visitor you could try for a new one.

To be honest though, I'd be more concerned with your other issues regarding the transmission calibration and XYZ situation.

Ok. Will see what happens with the MAF.

Yes, need to sort out the XYZ issue too. I will take it for a run tomorrow to see if the recalibration has had any effect.

Fitted a new MAF last week and it seems to be a bit livelier below 1500 RPM but need to tow with it again to be absolutely sure.

Any more feedback after fitting the new MAF sensor?

I am chasing a similar fault.

Well, I thought there was a slight improvement but towing a small empty trailer on Saturday brought up the engine fault message and the return journey with a 500Kg bale of hay made me realise that the performance was no better than before. Towing the same trailer today with 1000Kg of sand in it wasn't great and it then stalled 3 times when I tried to pull away on a slightly steep driveway.

Reading the codes gave this fault: -

Engine TDV6

P023D-22 (68) Manifold absolute pressure - turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor A correlation - General signal failure - signal amplitude>maximum

One that I have had before and I am now beginning to wonder again if the turbo is simply tired and not providing the boost expected by the engine management system.

Can you read live values? Check to see what your map sensor is reading I had a simular fault where it turned out to be the sensor reading high

It's had new MAP and MAF sensors now. I suppose I could read the live values with the IID tool, just in case it's a wiring issue.

Turns out the butterfly valve hadn't been removed. It has now but I haven't had a chance to take it for a run yet.

Well the butterfly valve removal has made no difference. I think it'll be a new turbo next.
