Knocking noise
I've emptied my car, even the jack and tools have boot kicked out. The reason is when I drive over a bump in the road that is more than a dimple or a small pot hole i get a knicking noise in the read of the car. I have even had the back seats up down and shaken all around but can I find where the knocking noise is from? No... The this evening I opened the tailgate and discovered that the lower one has a bit of give. So if you shake it a little when it is closed it rattles. Now i don't know whether this is it or if I have a suspension issue (that was my first thought by the way).
Does anyone else have this problem?

Make sure your spare wheel is secured properly. It makes a hell of a knock if it starts swinging around

knocking noise
Hi graemem, yes have exactley the same noise and have moved everything out just like you. not tried the spare wheel yet but ill be up early in the morning to try it. I have noticed that if you press on the sides of the glass (top ) part of the boot lid, this two makes a bit of a clicky noise. hope somebody works it out soon or its back to the dealer...... Mine was more of a Klonk, than a Knick. Mentioned it to the dealer on one of the compressor re-fits, and apparently they dismantled and re-fitted the lower door latches to sort it. 100% fine now...............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

had another go at the doors today and am sure it is the bottom part, although it is a good idea to have a look at the spare wheel, maybe someone has attmepted to loosen it to nick it......

Had the same problem, drove me mad. I did remove the spare several times without any results... Asked a friend to travel in the back and press things. When he pushed the upper back door the noise ceased. Found to be the two black plastic lateral guides on both sides of the boot door. Just a pinch of vaseline on their surface solved that!

I used to carry a Maglite in the front nearside door pocket of the TDV6 and put it in the same place when I got the V8 (which is lots quieter than the diesel). For days I thought that something was knocking in the dash or stearing column. Eventually tracked it down to the batteries banging the inner casing of the Maglite as I went over bumps.
May not be the car. Have you got anything in the rear side pouches insecure?

I've got it, it's definately the lower tailgate. It has too mutch give on it. I stuffed a paper tissue (yes my daughter had already used it so didn;t need to lubricate it any more ) around the lock point and the noise has gone. So a trip to the dealers to reset the lock is needed me thinks. Thanks for all the tips.

Don't expect a quick fix .. This issue on mine made a 1 day job ( compressor / ext temp sensor / new ash tray gubbins ) into 2 days .................Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........
