Knocking from front suspension

I'm hearing a knocking from the front, when I brake sharply or when I go up a kerb or speed bump etc.

Local dealer a) said 'there's nothing there'; b) said 'oh yes, but that's normal'; and c) said they'd fixed it by changing front ball joint. Its still there.

What can you do when the dealer doesn't seem to be able to fix a problem??

Can anyone suggest what I can tell them it is?

Ta

Andy.

Hi Alinton

Had same issue on mine needed steering rack replaced there is a TSB on it. Also go to Youngs or Trinity in Wexford seem to be far better.

Currently got it, had Anti roll bushes replaced last time, having ball joints replaced this time, but the dealer is very reluctant to change the steering rack Confused

I had this. It was especially bad knocking if the brakes were applied sharply. Dealer replaced both bottom wishbones. Completely cured the knocking. This was at about 65000 miles. Now on 96000 and no knocks at all.

Thats exactly what mine does, mine's at 55,000 miles.

I know what the dealer will do today; They'll keep it the whole day, then say they couldn't do anything as they have to order parts.

Mine is going in next Friday for the same thing. Had the anti roll bar bushes last month and it is still knocking when you hit a pot hole etc, I have asked them to look at ball joints and rack.

Mine is at the dealer as I type this. I printed out the TSB on this subject and gave it to the dealer when I described the front knocking. He called later in the day to tell me the front bushings were worn and needed to be replaced. I'll report back after I pick up the vehicle and we'll see if the repaired bushings cure the noticeable knock.

Do, I'll be interested. My dealer decided they need to replace the lower wishbones and a drop linkage, but - you guessed it - they didn't have the parts so its gonna be done the week after next!

Its good ere, innit?

Just got a call from the dealer. They have replaced the bushings but that has not solved the problem. They now want to replace the ball joints. I mentioned that other people have had issues with the steering rack, and the dealer said they want to replace the ball joints first to see if that fixes the issue. They'll have it done on Monday and I'll report back my findings.
