Both keys not unlocking D3

Hi all,

Both the main and spare key are no longer unlocking the car. Everything else seems to be working fine, though for some reason the wing mirrors have started dipping when they were switched off before which could indicate a reset of the 'system' (you can tell I'm not tech-savvy).

Before I start to prise open the key fob possibly damaging it & replacing batteries etc. is there any way to check the keys are being recognised by the car or to 'resync' the car & key?? It seems like they are not registering with the car.

Thanks in advance
Ben

I understand its possible to charge the key against a toothbrush charger, see if that works. If it charges and then works, look to induction ring on steering lock not working

If they've both always worked and suddenly now don't, you need to search the forum for the green wire splice and repair that before destroying your fobs. Wink

Thanks for the ideas of where to start Thumbs Up .

I'll start with the key by the toothbrush charger.
I have no idea if the spare was good. It did one unlock yesterday, then nothing, so my guess is it has not been used for a long time (I know we haven't used it in the 2.5 years we've owned the car.

Next will be the green wire splice & then the receiver.

I'll let you know if the charging works!

Just had pretty much the same problem with mine
Done the 3 wire splice no joy
But I had just replaced the battery
The only thing I can think of that got my keys working again was I pushed and pulled all the fuses in the engine bay and they worked again still got me bambusled
 All transmission oil replaced
3 flash indicators
All timing belts changed
EPB serviced
De cat fitted
Wind deflectors
De-tango done
Tints fitted
Egr blanked

Well, the charging attempt didn't work. That would've been too easy.
Before I try the 3 wire splice I'll do what you did Henda. I need to replace the cigarette lighter fuse so I'll check and push the others and see if anything happens.
Cheers

Looks like it's the green wire splice caused by a blocked sunroof drain.
Found a very wet passenger footwell when looking at how to access the wires.

Oh joy, another job to add to the list.

Thanks all for the help!

i had this on my car too, it was the green wire that was busted due to the bottles of water the wires were swimming in!

Quick update.
Had the Green wire splice replaced, and keys are working fine now. Thank you all for guiding me to that Bow down Bow down .
Drained the front/footwell. Had the front N/S drain checked and that was clear, and draining nicely. Pollen filter is nice and dry.

Footwell is soaked again Evil or Very Mad so the water is still getting in somewhere. Any thoughts where to check next??

Thanks
Ben

You obvs know there’s a drain hole on both sides that need to be checked. Also it’s possible that the drain hose may be clean but also may be disconnected and so drains into the footwell. You’d need to chase the hose all the way to the drain in the wheel well to check. Lastly, the carpet has a ton of foam under in and holds a serious amount of water. I put a dehumidifier in my LR3 when I got it as it had blocked drains (and a disconnected drain hose) and I took out something like 8l of water over 5 days.

There's also a leak path for a dodgy seam weld under the roof trim. And there's the scuttle panel. And there's the door seal............ Big Cry

To be honest, if you have a sunroof, always suspect that. Rolling Eyes

Loads of info for leaks, use the search and start the detective work. Wink

Well, after assuming it was the sunroof, it appears it was somehow getting in under the trim up the side of the windscreen. After a lot of detective work, and spraying with a hose, the water came in when the spray was directed at the edge of the windscreen/trim.
It seems to be fixed now, and drying quite well. Just need to stick the dehumidifier in there to dry up the final bit.

Fingers crossed it stays dry.
Thanks for all the help & comments
