Keyless entry or not?

Hi All,

I've recently ordered a new D4 and wondering what the general view is on keyless entry, I currently haven't ordered it but I can add it if I do pretty pronto. Is it worth £825(?) to enable me to unlock the car without having to put my starbucks on the roof while I look for the fob?

Does anyone know if it can either be retro fitted or at least a small CCF edit to enable at least the walking up open and lock (without the button on the handle obviously)

Opinions please!!

I have it on my HSE and I think it is worth it, not sure it can be easily fitted or activated may be worth contacting Wiggs andasking him as he will no doubt know.

The security risks of keyless entry have been well publicised.

Even if it were a no-cost option I would not take it.

If I were to buy a 2nd hand D4 with keyless entry I would want to disable it - is this possible by editing the CCF file I wonder?

They have been publicised by people who don't appear to fully understand how it works though Wink It's no more risky than any other form of key fob entry tbh.

I don't think the range is much with the keyless entry, if I walk down the side D4, with my right side, side on to the door, Fob in my left pocket often it often won't be close enough to let me enter, also sometimes I've opened the door, placed the Fob in the door pocket and tried to start it, I just get the massage "Smart Key Not Found" so to my mind it is no bad thing that it has a limited range, where as locking and unlocking by pressing the buttons on the Fob I can be twenty feet away and it works.

exactly ...the range is one metre of the fob ...and the signal is double encrypted either way. In effect you have to have man with mighty magic receiver stood next to you to gain any entry advantage ...normal use of the key fob buttons from a distance presents more risk as it would for 99% of all other fob users driving any motor IMO.

The keyless entry cannot be enabled on a standard vehicle as it requires multiple hardware changes. The system is more secure than normal fob entry; it is a low range 2-way encrypted system that also requires a hand around the door handle and a physical pull.

The system is designed to have a very low range specific to an individual door. As per the manual, the system is very vulnerable to interference if the fob is close to mobile phones or metal objects. The designers have worked very hard to give it a limited range so this is to be expected.

I think the system is excellent. If I had security concerns and I had the option of disabling the normal RF plip I would consider doing so.

Thumbs Up

Well after all of this I manned up and emailed the dealer who confirmed he'd change the spec. Came back to me today... Keyless isn't available on commercial???!!

I'm a bit confused as it isn't a secret that the commercial is just a modified car?
